Corona Scatter on Proxies

I'm trying to use Corona scatter on some models that I have proxied, but unless I have the proxy method set to full mesh the scatter doesn't work properly. Is there any way to get the scatter to work on a point cloud? It would save me having to switch everything to full mesh before render time
