I spend some hour playing with displace and depth of field, I quite like the photographic impression.

Yeah, pretty awesome. Rendertime?

Did you change the GI/AA-Balance?

It's funny to see how almost every CGI artist adore pentagon shape bokeh, while photographers mostly hate it.
Also, why your pentagons in foreground are rotated differently than in background? Did you add DOF in post?

Hello everybody,
the DOF is totally done in Corona, I don't really know why the pentagons are rotate differently.

Yes the setting for GI/AA was something like 8 or less, I don't have the scene here with me.

About the render time I resume the render many time so I can't tell you, for the last pass I did set 1000 pass as maximum limit.

The render is not clean yet so probably need more hours to achieve a better result.

The lighting is made by  a HDRI in the environment slot, done by myself in Photoshop, a very simple HDRI.

there are some invisible bluish sphere floating on top of the crystals. (light material)

The displace is Max geometry displace mapped with different noise map mixed together.

Very very simple and basic scene and a little of contrast in Photoshop.

Ok, that's interesting. I did a little test and found that bokeh shapes gets flipped before focal point and renders normal beyond FP. Initially i thought that it is a bug, because i've never seen such thing in photographs. But then decided to do little experiment with real lens and custom aperture and found that IT IS TRUE! Wow, never though that Corona can teach me something about photography! I'm a little shocked :]

in real photography its not strange that the shape of bokeh rotates...find some videos in youtube and you'll see ....

http://luminous-landscape.com/bokeh-2/<--- source

but its quite impressive that corona can render that...don't the rays are shot from the camera in straight paths???

and talking about bokeh...a non-ideal Gaussian blur bokeh could add realism to a render??  ...see fig1.2 and 3 from ken rockwell's blog about the subject

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/bokeh.htm

I have lots of lenses, most of them old manual lenses, like the 58mm f.2 m42 mount from zenit ....it gives a "swirly bokeh"...and that's why it famous ..

Renderers shoot rays exactly as in the image, only they are shot from the aperture, not from the actual film behind it.
