[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona 1.3 Benchmark
« on: 2018-02-21, 18:39:15 »
Anyone has any suggestions?
What is your CPU and Windows version?
Please try installing our official version first: https://corona-renderer.com/download/
And then run the benchmark. The point is that the installer installs some additional system components which are required by Corona. It is possible that you are missing those.
If there are any problems with the installation of the Windows components, try this: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000019570

I all ready have the corona renderer installed, without any errors and working perfectly in 3ds Max. On both this machine and the previous one I had Corona installed while testing the benchmark.
Both machines are running the latest windows 10 Creators update.
First machine I used and tried it on had Broadwell E 6850K.
Current/new which I tried has AMD Threadripper 1950x .

I've never managed to get the Benchmark scene to work properly. Well it renders but the second it is finished it crashes, so I'm unable to see the time or submit my score. This happened on both machines I try it on. I also tried starting it in Admin mode, but still crashes when finished. Giving me this error.

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Re: Scene Presets
« on: 2018-02-05, 15:25:02 »
Yeah, I'm sure that would be fine too.

What I meant is that often you want to set up a light setting for testing purposes to see if the materials are good etc, or standards studio lighting for object presentation, something you do over and over and it would be nice to have library of very well fine tunes environments that puts corona materials to its fullest.

Like one scene like the one in this video:

were testing materials without being fooled by light is set up.

Or one like this were you can render out nice objects in a scene that doesnt take focus but still make the object look good

and 2-3 envrionments of classic studio and extrerior scenes.

3dS max has this from the selective scenes that comes with max, but they are rather crap and they aren't optimal for Corona. If you had a few scenes which are great to merge with your current object on your site or saved on the machines default scenes folder it would be more than sufficient.

I guess I can easily set up my own library of this.... I just thought it would be something that could be useful for everyone. ;)

[Max] Resolved Feature Requests / Scene Presets

A feature I think would have been great is a Scene Library, same way as you have made the awesome Material Library. F.example theres a lot of times you would just quickly set up a scene for presenting an model or test a models light, and it takes a few minutes finding a good Environment map, add a few lights and do some tweaking. What if you had a list of something like the most typical studio light setups with corona lights and an environment image added to the scene on a fly as well as a few outdoor, with sky, night, etc ....and also a dull scene that are perfect for tweaking the materials with no over exposed lights and perhaps a scene for rendering the model with a nice grey gradient background - just the classic ones.... I know these are not difficult things to make yourself, but just as with materials it takes time and it is really perfect how you made the Corona Materials to easily pick the most typical ones and then one can do personal tweaking from them. Presets are always a time saver :)

Sorry for the slow reply! Haha actually I hadn’t notice the corona output module, I must have been sleeping. For me that one is more user friendly than max’s. But yeah if it could have had curves the same ui style you have implemented it in the rendering color adjustment options inside this module it would have been superb! 3ds max’s Output module curve is just horrible.

recently Cornoa has been making improved Bitmap module in materials, new camera and other stuff that are more user friendly than what 3DS Max has to offer.
Have you considered improving/making a new Output module in Materials as well? I mean personally I always felts it has a very confuzing interface with the curve editor being really badly implemented with over complex amount of buttons to make the simplest adjustments.

Having a Hue saturation slider, and a curve editor like the one in Corona renderer would have been amazing in my opinion and making it much faster to work with.

Just a suggestion :)

I feel like thanking Vlad, and now Ondra too, for being so patient and answered the same questions and panic attacks over and over in a peaceful matter. Corona for me is the best thing that has ever happened to rendering and I now feel quite confident it will continue to stay that way. Cheers :)

The deal was only possible because we agreed that Corona must continue to be developed independently, as the Corona team decides. We also agreed that Corona's price point is important for its success.

This is exactly the kind of things that were just partly explained in the news story which the corona users needs to hear (over and over apparently :D ).
I really hope this all works out the way you intend it to do, it can be an even brighter future for both renderers. Thank you Vlado for taking the time to explain things further.

It would be nice if everyone calm down a bit now, stay positive and hope for the best. It's smart and decent people behind both of these renderers ;)

Since the corona team insists that it is in their best interest to continue on the same path and keep the prices around the current level, this could be a very positive thing for us all with a lot of really cool things closer on the horizon. And I think it's worth giving them a fair chance to prove it. I think the FAQ and news page lacked a bit of proper information that is important for the corona customers, leaving us all in a bit of shocked state.

That said, my initial reaction was the same as everyone else. I became a fairsaas subscriber to corona mainly because of the pricing and how easy the renderer gives you good results. I'm mainly a 2d illustrator and 3D is just a fraction of what I do. It wouldn't make sense for me to pay the price of v-ray for something I use maybe one day a week in average. And I think a lot of the corona customers has similar thoughts. They have found a renderer which was different than the usual ones, better default values and less complex but with awesome results (and don't forget the nice pricepoint). This is probably the core of all this frustration, being afraid to loose what we love or see it being swallowed into v-ray. Which is why an ignorant investor that only would poor money into corona would have seemed less intimidating.
This line of thought is based on so many similar acquisitions in this same industry.

Vlado, it's important to understand that all this frustration (or call it hate if you like) comes from strong emotions about something we LOVE... and now being afraid we will loose. It's a natural over-reaction if you feel strongly about something.

As long as Chaos group let corona live on, in its own way, I'll stick around a happy camper. :) - and probably everyone else will too.

Just my two cents.
