Work in Progress/Tests / Re: day and night test

Well shadows are by nature "indirect". So better indirect passes should also improve the shadow passes. How to improve it even more... I don't know.

Thank you :)

I think you should try 32 GI and 1,5 LSM instead. This way you'll have more indirect samples but the same amount of direct samples.

Hi 3dwannab. I would really like to check out your fire in v2014. Thanks.

Hi. So fare the best result I've achieved was by using the Inventor Fusion software. Back then (2012 or so) it was part of the AutoCAD installation (suite), but now I think it's a cloud thing. Still got the old one installed.

BTW nice pictures :)

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Object invisible in reflections
« on: 2015-03-20, 14:38:43 »
Hi. AFAIK the "invisible to camera" does work as inspected. But for shadows, reflections and reflections you need to use the Corona Rayswitch. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've searched the help files several times for some accurate explanation on which properties are supported and which not, without any luck. Would be nice to have a reliable help file about this.

Just for clearing up: Corona isn't the only renderer having problems with these properties. Iray as well - just for one - doesn't support all settings.

Would be nice to have a more efficient method to do these things than the Rayswitch anyway.

Hi melviso. I think the last image is overly contrasted, in a very artificial way. So just wondering.. is this intended, as an "artistic" approach?

Hi. The Sun is a directional light, meaning that there's no reason to put it 9km away. Only thing happening is Max screwing up because of the long distance. The physically correct size of the Sun is 1, but numbers as 2, 3 or 4 are often used to make the shadows softer. 32 is way out of range IMHO. Physical correct intensity is 1 (clear sky).

Unless you're working with a very large city model (several km2) I would suggest a Sun distance around 50 - 100m, and for soft shadows I would set the Sun size to 4 and the intensity to 1 or lower. The Corona Sky map I would leave at default settings.

Hope it helps

Edit: not as fast as Juraj, but same message :)

Hi jetcrow. This is some really great renders. I love the fog effect you've created. But... I simply can't figure out how to make it myself. I've replicated your settings (thanks), but I'm not getting anything near your result. So I guess there's something I totally missed....

Is it possible to get this result (or similar) in the renderer, or is it only possible to do it in post? What element are you using? (tried Volumetric, but it didn't work for me). Any tips regarding workflow, to achieve this beautiful effect?

I'll really appreciate any help regarding this "big mystery" ;)

[Max] I need help! / Re: DOF in new version
« on: 2015-03-09, 22:05:29 »
Hi lius86.

Just to clear things up: It is actually possible to use "free" exposure and f-stop setting. You don't have to activate "photographic exposure" to use the "f-stop" settings - even though it is placed in that box. As long as it isn't greyed out, it's active.

Hope it helps

[Max] I need help! / Re: Adjusting Falloff RGB curves
« on: 2015-03-08, 13:57:25 »
Those 3 curves are not different RGB channels (just as described). However your curves are making 3 different RGB channels. I don't know how to achieve what you want, but I very much doubt this is the correct way.

Hi. Could be numbers of reasons for this. For a start use UHD instead of HD.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Strange displacement behavior
« on: 2015-03-07, 16:01:57 »
Yes, Corona displacement can be improved. But the point is, that no matter what renderer you use, it will always be better (+ less CPU demanding) to model this kind of geometry (straight corners etc.).

[Max] I need help! / Re: Strange material behaviour
« on: 2015-03-06, 22:29:22 »
Hi. Try this:

1) Check how HDRI behøves with default corona materiale. Make a small box on top of a bigger box, both with default material. Are there any contact shadows? If not, you need more light. If yes, then go to next point.

2) How is the table material made? Shadow catcher or a Wood-material? How does it behave without bump/normal map/displacement? Any kind of self illumination?

Hope it helps
