Title: BACK UP SYSTEMS
Post by: Philip kelly on 2021-12-27, 23:23:02
Hi
I have been using WD 12 tb duo drives for a few years but they always die.
What would people recommend for a back up system that does not cost the earth.
It is for a small office system 1-2 people, just backup projects on a weekly basis.
Thank you

Phil

I use backblaze, it's really cheap for unlimited backup, but it's limited to 1 computer only and download speed is abysmal, so in case of drive failure, it would cost you additionally for shipping your data on hdd.

You can build a very cheap windows pc and fill it up with drives, and then use Free file sync to make your automatic backups when the system starts.

If you are more tech savy and have the time you can build an Unraid machine and make your backups there.

I use Backblaze too. I'm happy with it so far. Of course I never had to restore my data, so until then, it's a bit of a mystery.

Backblaze is not really for me, I have projects that go back 10 years and need to dip into them now and again.
I could build one,but that is time consuming to be honest, I'd rather keep working on projects , but thank you for the advise I do appreciate it.

I will have to look at NAS systems I think.
