DR:
  • Fixed sending missing assets from master to slaves when assets contain non-ascii characters
  • Reduced network traffic by sending only a relevant part of the sampling mask to slaves
  • Reporting more errors when DR slaves cannot read data or received data are not valid
  • Slaves now start to render random strips (previously the rendered strips were the same for all slaves or close to each other)

Regular daily build updates:
  • VFB now remembers rollout collapsed/expanded state across 3ds max runs
  • History comparison tool works again after it was broken in the last daily build
  • Fixed VFB being in inconsistent state when opened before any render by “show vfb” button
  • Installer now comes with bundled IES profiles from Real IES
  • Fixed Corona materials not updating in viewport when properties are animated and time slider is moved: https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2414
  • Fixed occasional flickering in new IR subsampling
  • Removed “clear interactive vfb” parameter as it is no longer necessary with the subsampling
  • Fixed maxscript not working during IR when IR was launched via startInteractive() maxscript command https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2579 - possibly leading to other bugs as well
  • Fixed: color picker temperature slider showing incorrect colors https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2557
  • Fixed excessive log sizes from DR server causing HDD space exhaustion
  • Fixed: UI freeze when using “Lock 3dsmax during render” with Render to Texture (RTT). There is a bug in RTT, so we had to disable the lock for RTT
and now... we finally release the Corona Image Editor:
  • Standalone image editor/viewer inspired by Corona VFB, sharing its look and feel.
  • Offers rich and fast post-processing options for dumped EXRs from the VFB. Namely tone mapping, LUTs, bloom and glare effects, full featured denoising. Curves and sharpening tools coming shortly
  • It has lower system requirements. It is not necessary to have a scene loaded while you are working with your images. You can e.g. denoise Corona renders outside of the rendering process.
  • Also incorporates the LightMix feature. Now you can adjust your lights anytime you want.
  • All LightMix and post-processing settings can be easily shared between the VFB and this standalone editor.
  • EXRs from the VFB have its settings already baked in so it is being loaded automatically. No need to copy settings manually.
  • It can also work with non-Corona EXRs. For instance it is possible to add the bloom effect into them, or apply your tone mapping settings or LUT. Denoising is not available for such EXRs because they miss necessary “hidden” auxiliary data.
  • Edited EXRs can be saved to EXR, or converted to PNG/JPEG/BMP formats.
  • You can associate the editor with EXR files and open them just by doubleclicking.
  • Portable application, works with just unpacking, no installation necessary
  • Free with a regular Corona license

General updates
  • Fixed IR not exiting properly when VFB was closed after progressive passes limit was hit
  • The official suffix for Corona EXR files is now .cxr - changed defaults for autosave, render history, and saving from 3ds Max.
  • Fixed .cxr and corona jpeg not saving sequences properly
  • FIxed Corona EXR/JPG failing to save when saving from Corona VFB after render
  • Added error message when user tries saving render elements to .cxr (which is not possible)
  • Fixed IR not updating when object properties or wire color change
  • Added “Prevent black appearance” checkbox also to CoronaLightMtl https://corona-renderer.com/bugs/view.php?id=2565
  • Addded tooltip to “Prevent black appearance”
  • fixed: ">Max" button in VFB being always disabled (bug introduced in the last daily)
  • Fixed: parsing issues with animations, hopefully improving e.g. PhoenixFD compatibility
  • Fixed distance tex not working with scatter that is hidden
Corona Image Editor
  • All elements that have been successfully denoised by the editor are now marked within the element combo box.
  • Loads and saves Corona EXR files having new file extension ".cxr".
  • Fixed photographic exposure. Now it correctly loads Shutter speed and F-stop parameters from VFB dumps.
  • Fixed denoising mode combo box where the mode had to be selected twice in some scenarios.
  • Startup open dialog now can be closed without selecting any image. Editor then shows up empty.
  • Added drag and drop feature to load images into the editor.
  • Fixed tab order within tabs.
And last but not least major update to Scatter:
Added scattering directly on splines
  • When "1D - On splines" is selected, "Spline Scattering" rollout appears.
  • Users can set the spacing between instances on the spline, resulting in a regular distribution
  • Increasing "Jitter" will make the regular distribution more random
  • Changing "Offset" moves the instances along the spline
  • Rotating the spline's pivot will rotate the instances around the spline
Added scattering in regular patterns using UV mapping:
  • Only accessible during scattering on surfaces or closed splines
  • Three patterns available are Grid, Running grid and Hexagonal grid
  • Users are able to add random jittering (0 - 100%) to make the pattern more random
  • Increasing "Offset" moves the pattern
  • UV channel sets the Uv channel of the distribution object the Scatter uses
Changed "Align to normal" from on/off to [-1,1] value.
  • This value corresponds to aligning all instaces with -Z (value -1), aligning them to normal (value 0) and aligning them with +Z (value 1).
  • Allows blending the aligns (value 0.5 will be half the distribution object's normal, half Z axis).
Added regular steps option to Transformations
  • Each transformation (rotation, translation and scale) now has "Stp" value - the number of discrete steps the interval will be divided into
  • Each transformation now has 3 checkboxes X/Y/Z marking the axes that are affected by discrete stepping
  • If enabled, the interval is divided into "Stp" steps and one step value is chosen at random instead of choosing randomly from the whole interval
Added a scatter lister button

Fixed the shadow terminator issue

  • Fixed DR logs being erased when directory size exceeds the limit
  • Automatically removing received max scenes on slaves
  • Replaced simple text area in DR rollout with a table where each entry can be disabled through a checkbox
  • Fixed rendering of Max regions on slaves (bug introduced in previous daily)
  • Decreased CPU load due to processing DR messages on master
  • Removed misleading error shown on slaves (“Received invalid message from master”)
  • Fixed slaves sometimes showing twice in DR tab

Scatter
  • Fixed scattering even lower number of instances than requested when “Max Count” parameter was too low

Scatter
  • Scattering on splines should now have more intuitive behavior. Scattering now starts on the beginning of the spline and if spacing is set correctly, scattered instances can reach the end.
  • While scattering on splines, the default orientation is now the local Z axis. This can be changed by rotating the spline's pivot.
  • "Count" parameters have been moved to their respective rollups (one for Random surface and one for BBox scattering) and "Count/MaxCount" has been changed to "Limit" which acts as the hard limit on how many instances will be scattered.

Corona Image Editor
  • Renamed denoising buttons to better reflect their functionality
  • Background color of the pixel probe now matches to the pixel probe in Corona VFB.
  • The tone mapping rollout is now expanded on startup.
  • The open dialog no longer automatically launches on startup.

DR
  • Fixed 3ds Max not being closed on DR slaves in some cases
  • Fixed interference of status messages when more than one master renders on a network

  • Editor asks for confirmation to discard changes when another image is dragged and dropped.
