Work in Progress/Tests / Re: My first rendering using corona

And back on topic: I consider self-critique to be better than outsider's opinion because you will need to use it more often. Start with lots of tutorials that exist before you try for critique in forum. There are tons of good A-to-Z tutorials that will improve your skills in avery aspect. Then just then post stuff. {Viscorbel, Archviz vol1/2 from Evermotion, Making-offs on Ronen site,etc..}

Exactly - Juraj is totaly right here. Using all those freely available resources one can get from total noob to semi advanced and has the knowledge about certain topics that can be further explored - IBL, advanced shaders etc etc etc, countles important aspects.

Please keep that in mind people (I am not adressing only the author here). Make some effort from your side. Personally I am really thrilled lately by the amount of people that wish to get all the knowledge served on a silver plate without any time investment on their own.
The knowledge is there, just reach out for it, and what Juraj said and I suggested - compare your work to others, make a certain goal for yourself and your own progress.
When you reach a point that despite trying, you just cant push it any further ask for help.

As for the sarcasm - yea i failed to see it, my apologies Rawalanche :) but in generall i believe that petting people does more harm to them than does good. Sometimes it is just a lot better to get a bucket of cold water on your head ;)

Easy you say - ok I agree, but you can go easy on someone who is at least ... I dont know - trying ?
Posting a white box and asking for criticism is somewhat like rendering a teapot and asking for criticism.
The author didnt say what kind of criticism he is looking for or at least what is the purpose of this work nor mentioned the problems that he is struggling with.

The above was the reason behind my question - it might look ok for a simple game engine model (not my piece of cake so not really sure about it) but as an archvis needs a lot of improvement.

And lets clarify, I dont have anything against users who ask how to do certain things (ask, dont demand) - eg. "I'm having a problem with my vegetation, the reflection/refraction doesn't seem right, I struggle with it for some time and can't work it out, can you guys have a look at it and  help/suggest any solution?"

You DONT have to be Bertrand or Juraj to be able to CLEARLY see that you can improve everything in this picture...
modeling, composition, shaders etc. If you dont - sorry, face the truth, you are a blind man, and if you plan to do this for a living - really - change your profession or keep in mind that a lot of time will pass untill you will be able to make any profit out of it, and if as a hobby - this will cost you a lot of time.

Please stop petting people by throwing them advices like the "realism" added by the vignette :D, I know you had good intentions Rawalanche, but vignettes and abberations wont make this picture even remotely realistic without improving the topics stated above.

So:
coposition - average human height is 1,6-1,75meters, try to place your camera at more or less this height, you will get more naturall looking composition right away.
shaders - your shaders look 100% diffuse and real world materials dont behave this way, add some reflection to them - try to observe this aspect in real environment
modeling- force yourself to model minimum amount of detail according to the distance you will render your model from. Over-simplified models will never look realistic, try adding all the architectural elements the building lacks at this stage.
Prepare reference photos for those elements. Pay attention to detail and scale.
surroundings - think of adding some environment to your building, if you can't come up with some of your own, photograph the place you like, modell it and place your building in it, try modeling as best as you can and add as much details, only this way you will improve your skill and sense of scale and space.
last but maybe the most important - observe observe and once more - observe the real world, try to catch up all the nuances, how things and certain materials reflect their environment, what is their structure, texture, what is the balance between directly lit and diffuse lit surfaces in different lighting conditions etc. Observe as much as you can and then try to recreate this.

also - familiarize yourself with this great article by Lasse Rode from XOIO - it covers all the generall topics - composition etc:

http://www.ronenbekerman.com/photographic-approach-in-architectural-visualisation/

good luck on improving your work.

OK, I think this is THE MOST realistic cg vegetation I've seen to date, maybe not material-vise those could be improved even further but the overall fealing is totaly real for me ....
You nailed it, please consider making some grow fx tutorials, I'll gladly pay any price for them :D

Really well done! the light is really believable. I believe you could only fix the tiling on the carpet.

Those are chairs, not sofas, the lens here seem to stretch the image  quite a bit. You can find the chairs on 3dsky afaik.

As for the image, I agree with Modernbabylon - the lighting is super! Maybe the lamp shade near the sofa could benefit form a better shader, but the overall impression is really good.

Wat ? GGX implemented in nightly builds or is this some sort of a blend shader oO ?

Thanks for the reply.

Yea in a7 (not sure if it was introduced earlier) you have the "enviro portal" option in material options. Havent compared it to the regular method tho.

In Vray I noticed that the "simple mode" portals tend to introduce waaaaaaay more diffuse light and really brighten the interior, in comparison to regular ones which only seem to refine the lighting, introduce more contact shadow etc.

28
Out of curiosity Juraj - in the vray example with portal lights and the small window - those are used in "simple mode" or regular portal lights ?

When you use corona, do you use portals ? If yes in regular way - planes in window openings with corona portal mat or are you ticking on the enviro portal option on it the glass material?

As a side note - many thanks for sharing all this stuff, you are really a trully generous guy ! Always thinking that this forum (and many others) should send you a lifetime supply of beer :D

Wow, the ivy looks awesome oO, you could incorporate a bit of hue variation to the leaves to make it even better.
Awesome still.

Sweet.
Can you elaborate on the lighting a bit ?

General question to who ever feels adequate of answering: is it better time and quality wise to render double the resolution and then downscale  or render the final resolution in one run ? eg. is it better to render 3840px and downscale to 1920px or render 1920px in the first place ?

Thanks guys!
