In this video, I will explain how to improve hair sampling during Ornatrix hair rendering in 3ds Max/Corona Renderer.

Not everyone knows and understands that, more often than not, poor quality hair sampling is not really sampling, but just a small resolution for your task, or you just haven't rendered enough time.

For CloseUp - it is enough to move the camera, increase the resolution - if the first action is not enough and turn off the option "Render as planes" in CoronaHairMod.

---
TIMING:

0:00 - What will we talk about in this video?
0:37 - Demonstrating a HairSampling issue in CoronaRenderer from a subscriber.
0:53 - Showing an example with the same issue.
1:18 - Increasing resolution to 4K to fix hair pixelation.
1:22 - Turning off the Render as Planes option in CoronaHairMod.
1:28 - See what happened. As you can see - the issue is fixed. Yes, you can zoom in on the camera and thereby improve the quality in a small resolution. But more often it is the need to render a large resolution, so that when you zoom in the renderer - we don't see pixels and bad samping.
1:34 - Checking hair with CoronaHairMtl
1:45 - Reduce the thickness of the hairs to check the rendering quality with this result. Since in the subscriber's example - they were just thinner.
1:53 - Here I say always look at the picture at 1:1 scale. But if there is a need for 2:1 quality, etc. - just increase the resolution. For example, you need such a picture for a bigboard or for printing. At the same time, if you need just a close angle - just zoom in the camera and turn off the "Render as Planes" option in CoronaHairMod.
2:16 - If you liked this material, please don't forget to like this video, subscribe to the channel and write at least "thank you" - in the comment below it.

Hi,

Currently this is in our pool of ideas for new features, but unfortunately it's not on our roadmap for v8.

We'll let you know when we have some more information.

Rowan

Oh.. Ok...

Hi,

Alembic support for the CoronaProxy object has been requested previously by you: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=30697.0

It is logged in our system and in our pool of ideas :) however I am unable to give you any timescale on when this might happen.

Just a note, requesting the same thing many times will not speed up the implementation of a feature ;)

Cheers,

Rowan

You not right. Because this is not the same feature =)

We can't add Ornatrix modifiers to Corona Proxy + Alembic. In that thread, I asked specifically to work with proxies. Now I'm asking for a render with Alembic =) That's a big difference.

Because Alembic like a simple hair with which we can work in ORnatrix - comb hair and etc.

Corona Proxy + Alembic - just for render =) (that thread and request)

Hi Charly, sorry for the delay.
Unfortunately I will need a bit of help here.

I tried opening your scene and following your steps, and it seems that:
1) The hair does not render at all if the "mesh from strands" modifier is disabled
2) The hair does render fine if the "mesh from strands" modifier is enabled
It is the same with Corona and V-Ray.
I tested with Corona 6 HF1 and the 06.11 daily build, V-Ray 5 HF2, and Ornatrix 6.3.5 and 7.1.0.

My questions:
Is point 1 not expected?
Is point 2 expected?
What exactly is wrong?

Next time, it would be great if you could provide a scene that we can just open, press render, and immediately see the issue. Thanks in advance!

Hi, Maru

No problem =) I just see this message =) Sorry for the delay too =)

So, in V-Ray, I can render this object without MeshFromSTrands and this is the right way. MeshFromSTrands convert all the hair to mesh and as a result, we have polygons, not particles and this will slow down the viewport and the render. Ornatrix particles optimized to render the hair fast and V-Ray supports this. Corona supports an Ornatrix object, but if we will export it to Alembic, V-RAy can render this alembic, but Corona can't. Just only with MeshFromStrands which is bad for speed =)

I can't prepare the Corona Scene, because I haven't a Corona License now =) It expired and I did not renew it, because now I don't use Corona in my projects.

Thank you and have a great day
Best regards,
Andrew.
