Title: Export to Vantage planned?(in future)
Post by: Stefan-L on 2021-09-18, 13:28:41
Hi,

i wanted to ask if there is a theoretical chance that Corona will get an export to Chaos Vantage sometime in future?

it seems the material system in v7 and also rest of corona is techically, and settings wise very close in many parts to V-ray 5, and probably could be translated into a .vrscene (compatible) file, which vantage uses and can read.

is this plausible or am i wrong?
are others have the same wish?
even if the look is different for us at least it wouldbe great to have this option for realtime rendering in future.
(of course c4d shaders needed to be baked or translated i assume, bitmap textures shoudl be easy to stranlate to vrscene)

cheers
Stefan

I think this would be great. Or a way to import Corona scenes into Unreal engine. :)

Hi,

is there any news on a possible implementation of Chaos Vantage?

Nothing new at this time - you can bet if and when there is, we'll be letting you know :) Right now all focus is on Corona 11 and what was planned for it.

why not make the new scene converter also backwards working (corona<-->vray6),
i assume it is pretty easy to revert the direction, then any corona scene can be converted to vray in 1 click and exported to vantage. many studios have both corona and vray. this woudl it make also easier to work with both together.

this woudl bring more vantage customers to chaos and make many corona users happy.

WHAT’S AHEAD?
We’re still finalizing the features we hope to include in Corona 12. We can give you a very quick overview for now, though!

Improved Compatibility
First will be a focus on compatibility and integration with other Chaos tools. For example, we want to improve Converters to and from Corona, and investigate things such as exporting a Corona scene to Vantage, and working with Cloud Collaboration, to see what is possible.

I really hope for a bridge between Corona and Vantage too (or another "realtime" solution for Corona).

Could the dev team provide us with more information on what is happening behind the scene regarding this specific topic?

Too many threads on the same thing :) This has been answered elsewhere, that it won't be a live link since Vantage can only read vrscene, and that means a conversion from Corona which will take too long to do for an IR like approach. So this will be an export to Vantage so you can use that for rendering where appropriate (e.g. quick drafts and checks, etc.). All this is planned for 12 so will show up in a daily at some point in the future.

Sorry for the tangent here, but can't Vantage be used for animations (and not only for quick drafts) ? But with a hit to quality ofc, as the lighting and other effects must be calculated much faster and you are limited by the GPU Vram?

Spot on - I suggested for drafts as in many cases the limitations that come from GPU are something to be avoided in finals, for Corona users anyway, where ultimate realism and quality is often the goal. For a project where that's not the case, then sure no reason it can't be a final deliverable for you :) Depends on your project and client.

"Sorry for the tangent here, but can't Vantage be used for animations"

Vantage is excellent for animations!
i see this as main sense for Vantage.

i hope the vrscene export from Corona will include the c4d animation (as V-Ray C4D does it)

Hi Tom,
thanks a lot for your time and your answer and sorry for not having seen the answer elsewhere.

I'll have à close look on the dev versions in the coming months!

No worries on not spotting it elsewhere - looks like many folks are excited about and interested in Vantage, so the same topic has been started multiple times, and that is nothing but a good sign for the level of interest in Vantage :) We'll keep you posted (probably in a centralized thread once we have something out in a daily build). Thanks!
