This is a very tricky look to achieve. The A.i. did a good job of getting the feel of it. Unless you are animating or doing something else that REQUIRES you to get this look by just hitting render, then I'd think of it in pieces that you assemble in Photoshop or whatever. Here, I rendered out the glass ball with two lights and used architectural glass and I added a Fresnel effects to get the center to render mostly transparent with alpha.

I grabbed a simple gold ball of C4D's assets (uses a crazy looking normal map to get the dimples, but I'm guessing a proper mesh would give better results. I thine rendered the not-so-great ball and played with the layers in Photoshop. In the ballpark, but needs work. If it was me, I'd make the glass manually, and then render a ball with a warm and green light to try and get the look.

Maybe this will spur an idea.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: camera move

I didn't see a pontoon in your images so not familiar with that. The video I posted is not for tracking. The Camera Calibrator is just to match the C4D camera to the image to match perspective/focal length. This way, when you add the simple shapes for the camera to map the image onto, it will match everything. Yes, the Calibrator is also used in Camera Matching, but since your background is a still image, that would be unnecessary.

Everything I have posted is base on the background image being a still image. Is that the case?

I'm not 100% sure I understand your problem, but I think you want the background image to react to the camera movement? If so, maybe try adding a flat plane with the same proportions as the background image. I usually make it a child of the camera and zero out the positions and rotations. Drag it out of the Camera and position it to fill up your screen and add that background image. Now when you move the camera closer, you will also get closer to the image.

Things to keep in mind. Your camera move can't be too dramatic since it's a flat image. Subtle is better here. You may need to move your image farther away from the camera to help control that. You will also have to scale it back up to fill the screen.

I'd probably add a Corona Compositing tag to make sure the background image doesn't block light and cast a shadow.

If you want to learn something really useful, not sure your level of C4D knowledge, learn about Camera Mapping. If you aren't familiar, it's the technique that is used when you only have a flat image or can afford to build a 3D version of the scene, so now you can make small 3D moves and the scene appears 3D. In your case, using simple objects like planes, cylinders and cubes, line them up with your image. I can't remember if you need to cut out the different shapes in Photoshop too. Using the Calibrate Camera, and Projection tag, it can magically transform your background into a 3D scene. Again, works best with smaller camera moves. I found this OLD C4D tutorial that seems pretty clear showing the process.

That is a workaround a problem with the software, not really a solution. It does get you back online, but...

I think one thing to remember is Corona can utilize Shared nodes/textures/materials. If you open only the one material, but it shares nodes with several other materials, and you change a property in that node. It would affect all the others you can't see. This might be a problem I'd imagine.

I hope this long-standing, recurring issue is on the To-Do list to finally fix. I tend to avoid Cosmos updates until I have the to time wait for the "only seconds to update" which always take MUCH longer and then the "unable to open..." message. Then you have to re-install Cosmos. More and more assets are being moved to Cosmos, but we still have this issue and still many poorly converted materials as well.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: 3D ANIMATED PEOPLE
« on: 2025-03-19, 00:20:43 »
I did mention the image sequence in my reply, but did not know about using a separate mesh for each frame. I assumed the final export would "combine" them into one animated model. I'm guessing most people realize they can't alter the pre-animated people. Actually, you can adjust timing and a few things.

Okay I learned a couple of things after playing with this for a bit. Turns out I was wrong about the material not working. I failed to actually render some frames and only relied on the viewport. If I go down the timeline and change the quality of the material preview, the proper material pops in. I also did an animation sample and I think it is very usable indeed. I don't have experience using Alembic, so didn't realize the .c4d file, references the .abc file with must contain all the mesh frames as it is 580 MB.

The other animated people's meshes (non 4D) are a little distorted and not 100% accurate.

@PLASTICINE – I get the same message, but when you click it, it goes away because it did "something"

@bnji_rsv – If you are affiliated with that site, I don't mean to come across as overly critical, just posting what I saw. I would use some of those assets in the right project.

I downloaded the free samples of animated people. Very nice to have that many options of render engines. I can confirm there is a problem with only the models that use image sequences for a material. Seems like it add additional detail to fabric folds as they move. The other point is this is not a Corona issue it seems as the model "rp_aliyah_4d_004_dancing_C4D" displays the exact same error as shown in the attached image. The other samples of Sophia, Nathan and Manuel all perform, display and render as expected. I tested the Corona and Standard .c4d versions, as well as, the Alembic file where I had to add the material myself.

Hope this helps. Aside from this issue, I think the product are pretty good for mid, to background use in a scene. I would not use these for anything close up.

Those parallaxx shaders are pretty amazing. One note though, unless you are rendering your shot in low light or even at night, you will not be able to see inside the windows.

Hardware / Re: New Mac Studios Coming

Wait? You know we can't WAIT! ha. I know, but I like to wonder if things live up to the hype, not that Apple over-hypes anything (wink, wink). Seems that if anyone is in the market for one of these, and in particular coming from a much older machine, that the M4 Max would be the best bang for the buck. The M3 Ultra is two Max chips connected together, but their performance does not simply double because there are two CPUs. Back in the G5 days, two CPUs meant twice the speed.

I keep seeing that the M3 Ultra Studio can have an obscene amount of unified RAM and cores and large language model A.i. applications would benefit. I'm sure the extra cores would help 3D CPU rendering, but at such a crazy extra cost, not for me.

Solitaire will run at 240 fps so that will be nice too.

12 hours and nothing. Somehow I am now able to render, but on my older system that has been rendering at 25% speed if I'm lucky. I have a faster computer sitting idle because I can't get the license to work.

I also submitted a ticket, but did not see the 3-4 day delay. Unacceptable with a license problem.

Not related to the other user's post, but I'm sure I'm just as frustrated. I have a ticket Request #354956 in the system, but it's 7 hours with no reply and I'm getting desperate. This online system is infuriating to say the least. In my late night attempts to get Corona running on a new system, I tried the borrow license thing. That's was also frustrating. All the help says to do these steps, download the .crt file (or whatever it's called). I was never able to find where to get it. When you're done with the borrow thing, just click the release button. I was never able to find that button. ARRRRRGGH!

I'm going to have to call my client soon

I also wanted to put in a request for Tom to fire up one or more of those guitars sitting behind you in all your videos. Perhaps a birthday tune of some sort?
Studded outfit? Big hair? Women swooning perhaps?
