Title: How to achieve this kind of light/shadows ?
Post by: rpt on 2021-10-03, 21:46:13
Hi,

I was wondering if you guys could help me achieve thins kind of light.
I usually put some trees and stuff on the exterior to create this kind of shadows when light goes through the leafs but i was wondering if there are any other workaround that i am missing.

Thank you ,

Good evening,

Try to directly project a black and white map using a standard 3dsmax directional light, setting shadow type to Corona. You'll be able to put your map in the Shadow Parameters rollout.

Regards.

I think it's perfectly sound method. Is there a reason why you're not happy with it?

I think having a dark envrionment will replicate the effect you are looking for.

No sky and only direct sunlight.

Here's a similar thread already: "Shadow bokeh effect? (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=27348.0;all)"

Also, Maverick renderer has this thing called "PROJECTORS":

Creating theatrical and moody lighting has never been easier than with Maverick. With our Projector Lights you will be able to simulate complex shapes that will bathe your objects, creating unique atmospheres.

Hi,

Here is a simple tutorial on how to achieve the same effect in Corona and 3ds Max.

I hope this helps.

Yes, this "projector" lighting technique also works fine (for C4D users described here:
- Video projection (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=23464.msg142834#msg142834)
- Why we can't add some texture or gradient to Corona light in C4D?  (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=30346.msg175081#msg175081) (example attached)

Thanks for pointing it out :)

Hi Avi,

Thank you for making a video. I didn't see that as bokeh though, no? It just looks like a projection.
I was never able to get bokeh from Corona. I mean real bokeh from the shadows/lights or 3D objects. Is it possible?

Yes, but not with projector, it is fake. To get shadow "bokeh", you need to place some geometry (3D tree, or just 2D plane with alpha mask) between light source and the wall. You can control "bokeh" effect by adjusting the distance between the wall and the tree. See the forum discussion linked by burnin in message #4
