Realistic real-world scale in 360 VR on Quest headset
(1/1)
Otuama:
Hi all,
Is it just me but do 360 images not represent real world scale at all, particularly interiors. Everything seems smaller than real life.
We always render spherical (equirectangular) top-bottom 360s at 1:1 ratio (e.g. 4096x4096).
All of our scenes are real world scale and I try where possible to make sure that the minimum distance from objects is > 0.5m - but that's often impossible.
I often have cameras 0.6m > 0.7m from the ground.
Is this a limitation with the technology?
It'd help if focal lengths could be changed on 360s
Unless I'm missing something does anyone have any suggestions.
I'd be happy to send a test render if someone has a headset to try it on.
Thanks

I even tried chatGPT:

Doesn't having the camera 0.6-0.7m above the ground result in child-like perspective?
Other than that, you could try playing with the "eye separation" value of the Corona camera. Higher values basically mean that your head is larger in relation to the scene = you feel larger or the objects seem smaller. Lower values mean that your head is smaller in relation to the scene = the objects seem larger (again, a child-like effect).
At least that's the theory. :)
