HI there I'm a complete newbie in corona and been asked by a client to use it instead of Redshift. So far everything seems straight forward but I was wondering if there is an equivalent to using geometry as a mesh light source in Corona?

Yes indeed, just create a Corona Light material and apply it to the geo. That is all that it takes :) Welcome aboard!

Hi many thanks for that I thought that would be the case does a light material have the same properties as a light ie can you make it invisible to camera etc?

Yep. Throw a Corona comp tag and de-select 'seen by camera'. You can also switch off refections etc :-)
