I have to say.. your grass (in the original post) looks excellent!

What was your process?

So... as we're taught in rendering to never use max RGB values (ie; pure white should be somewhere around 200, 200, 200 value, max!) what is the best way to ensure I accurately represent real-life colours in renders?

The reason I ask; I have an interior scene where I'm demonstrating varied wall colours. For example; the paint product "Tikkurila Symphony - F487", has an RGB value of 228 226 218. Obviously it's advised to not use these high values. So, what's the best method to 'downplay' (for lack of a better expression) these values to then accurately represent this colour?

Let's presume I'm using 255,255,255 colour tint and 6500 k white balance with no LUT.

Any tips appreciated. Cheers,

If memory serves correctly, I think poliigon has at least one texture that might suit.

Nice! Great to see something a bit different...

+1 for Rhino.

ArchiCAD is second-rate to Revit, in terms of both use and power world-wide, I believe. So ArchiCAD integration is a bit of a mystery to me.

Rhino, with it's use by students and professionals world-wide, seems like a no-brainer. Grasshopper makes it incredibly powerful, the only thing that is missing (and the reason I recently moved from Rhino + vray rendering to Max+Corona) is the lack of assets for sale and of course no Corona (yet).

Again, +1 for Rhino! :)

Could you share a scene with us? With the 3ds max box and the rhino box? It's probably some 3ds max/import/export scale magic.

Sure, I've sent you a PM.

Cheers.

It's true though that in order to chamfer edges cleanly in max you will need to modify the triangulation sometimes.

Thanks Lupaz,

Would you mind explaining this process?

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies...

Something weird is definitely going on.

My scale is set to mm. I make a 3000mm x 3000mm x 3000mm box and apply a corona wooden texture to it. It applied perfectly.

When I import a model (from Rhino, also built in mm, and exported at mm, and imported at mm) and apply the exact same material to the imported geometry, the scale is WAY off. I have to decrease the 'real-world scale' by 1000 for it to display correctly. Same goes for imported geometry from Sketchup

The suggestion of trying reset xform hasn't helped.

Any suggestions/tips/hints welcome...Thanks!

Edit: When I apply UVW map modifier to the object, without changing the scale, ie; keeping real-world scale, the texture scale suddenly appears correct.

Sorry but there's so much wrong information here it needs to be corrected.

Use STEP or IGES for Rhino.

My personal adivce - there's no benefit in modeling the walls in Rhino, it'll probably cause you more headaches than needed if you aren't used to NURBS meshes in Max, they have their own quirks and you need to know how to solve them.
Unless there's something specific you need that you haven't mentioned.

Thanks for the thorough advice pokoy.

I'm using Max 2018.

This might be a fair bit of a departure from the original topic, but I'll go anyway: ....I'm new to 3DSMax, so excuse my ignorance. Do most people model in max? I'm a long-time Rhino user and - like most people with my experience in Rhino - absolutely hate modelling in 3DSMax. It's a complete pain. It's inaccurate, it's unfriendly. However, I do understand that this is an unpopular opinion.

I know companies such as The Boundary model the architecture in Sketch-Up, then import to Max. I totally get why - its easy, its accurate and many architectural companies use sketchup for their 3d needs. Similarly, as an architect - I was taught in Rhino. I consider myself a Rhino expert. So modelling in anything other than Rhino is basically out of the question for me. Additionally, as I work exclusively with architects, on REAL projects, I require accuracy. I receive most models in Rhino. So this is why I'm needing to import from Rhino to Max.

I find it totally strange that I can't cleanly and easily import to Max from Rhino. I want to build the basic architecture in Rhino, then edit it in Max (with corner chamfers etc, for added detail as an example).

Now that rant is over - I'll continue trying STEP and/or IGES as suggested... Though from 1 full days worth of experimentation, I can't say any process is preferred over another...

I know this has probably been discussed to death for the past 10 years... BUT, I still cannot find a suitable answer or solution to the problem of importing a clean model to 3DSMax from Rhino.

My goal is to have surfaces imported so they are non-triangulated. I would also really like to be able to edit the imported models (specifically with chamfers) - something which I'm struggling to do.

I know plenty of people model in and import from Rhino... whats everyone's preferred method?

Many thanks!

EDIT... I should note: I'm only wanting to import simple geometry - for example: walls (straight 90 degree corners) which are solid/capped polysurfaces. Nothing fancy. I essentially want to import walls, then chamfer them in 3DSMax. Any 'complex' geometry will be imported and unedited, basically.

[Max] I need help! / Corona Material scale
« on: 2018-06-12, 15:31:53 »
Hi All,

As I understand; all Corona materials (from the material library) are set to mm (millimeters). Is this correct?

I always work in MM, however occasionally, and I can't figure out why, how or when, the materials seem to apply at an entirely wrong scale (sometimes cm, sometime m, sometimes even bigger).

Any idea why this is happening? Am I missing something? My workflow is to usually import from Rhino, if that makes any difference. But I always start in mm, and import from Rhino in mm.

I'm new to 3DS Max/Corona, so please excuse potential amateur errors. Any help appreciated! Thanks.

lucky day i guess... as i just passed by, checked and saw it's free for now (Price: $89.99)
    Appreciate the reply Dan,

Though I did actually intend to say; "other than from xfrog" which I think are actually pretty terrible quality. But beggars cannot be choosers I guess!

    3dmk looks promising though.

Btw, I've followed you on Instagram for a while Dan... great work, keep it up please![/list]

    Hello,

As a visualizer from the Southern Hemisphere I regularly need to render Eucalyptus trees... but high-quality versions of these are very rare/basically non-existent.

Does anyone have any ideas where I should find some decent Gum Trees (Eucalyptus trees)? Willing to purchase, of course!

    Cheers!
