[Scatter] I need help! / Sharp edges with scatter
« on: 2018-09-04, 15:33:59 »
Hi all,

I'm using the free viz-people grass (as a proxy) combined with Corona scatter to produce grass in my latest project.

As you can see in the screenshot, a persistent problem I have is that because the grass proxy is clumped into approx 50cm disc-shaped objects, occasionally some of the scattered proxies creep off the edge of the scatter base and onto other geometry. I'd like a clean edge to the grass...

Is there something I'm missing to get the sharp edges? Or is my best option to use smaller clumps of grass? What is the best practise here?

Cheers,

Super job mate!

Natural, inviting, well-illuminated.

Well done!

are you appling reset xform, collapsing to edible mesh and then applying materials/uvw mod in that order?

Yes, definitely...

Nice!

Great lighting system - what'd you use?

Also, the caustics look great. How'd you achieve this?

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions.

However, resetting xform doesn't seem to help. I previously presumed this was a issue with importing from Rhino, but now I'm working on a file from ArchiCAD (imported as *.obj) and I have the same issue - I import objects, apply a corona preset material and it's scale is 1000 times too big. I have to add 'UVW map' modifier, untick 'real-world size' and input the L,W+H as "0.3" in the case of most of the wooden materials.

Hitting 'reset xform' as you've suggested doesnt help this. Am I missing something?

Any help much appreciated! Thanks...

Could you share a scene with us? With the 3ds max box and the rhino box? It's probably some 3ds max/import/export scale magic.

Hi Maru, did you ever get a chance to look at this?

maybe you can share simple scene?

Sure, here is a dropbox link (I've simplified the scene and given you the backplate image):
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0khl2bkp3iiv6al/AAA2Qa3qGgah_zniX06PCKjea?dl=0

If you select the camera and turn on DOF (while in interactive rendering mode) you'll see that center light suddenly loose it's transparency.

Cheers.

Update: ok, that was pretty stupid of me :) that "plane covering a window" is actually a light object, right? So it becomes visible when you enable DOF? And that light is against a shadowcatcher material?

Yes, Correct!

......

Apologies that my previous description was unclear! Appreciate the reply nonetheless.

Yes, the furniture is all 3d, the rest is a real photo. I modelled the room to match the photo and applied shadowcatcher to ceiling/floor/walls.

Yes, there is a rectangle light covering the door/window in far center of the image. The 'plane' visible in the first image is the light, which has 'visible directly' unticked. That's why it is not visible in the second image from my initial post (the render which has no DOF applied to the same corona cam). The apparent bug is that the light is visible (albeit oddly blurry) when I apply DOF to the camera.

Does this make sense now?

Any suggestions why this is happening, or how I can have the light turned on, invisible, and also have DOF applied to the corona cam?

Hi all,

I'm populating an interior apartment image (photograph) with 3D furniture. For this I'm using shadowcatcher with the image as a backplate.

One problem I'm having is that when I enable DOF on on the corona cam the invisible light (in the doorway) becomes visible. As soon as I disable DOF the light is no longer visible - which is correct.

Attached are both renders for comparison. I have tried setting the light as 'shadowcatcher illuminator' with no success.

Any help appreciated!

[Max] General Discussion / D.R. with VPN
« on: 2018-07-04, 11:37:11 »
Hi All,

I've recently subscribed to ExpressVPN. I like it, however it interferes with Coronas ability to find slave PC's and use D.R all together.

I know for certain that the VPN is the problem, as soon as I turn it off Corona is able to find my slave P.C and use it in rendering.

I've tried changing the "Network Adapter priority", as discussed in other topics, but this hasn't helped. I tried connecting to VPN on the slave, no luck.

Any other tips or ideas appreciated!

Edit: Changing some settings (using WLAN now) and disabling ExpressVPN by app allowed me to use D.R. again.

Thanks,

I'm not worried about the period - I still have 12 days left anyway.

My query related to the actual transferring of my (on-going) scene from corona 1.7 to version 2... mid-project.

I'm sure it's fine. I'm just wondering if its advised against doing though.

[Max] General Discussion / Moving to corona 2 mid-project
« on: 2018-07-02, 09:45:01 »
Hi all,

I'm new to Corona and still on my 45 day evaluation of version 1.7. I'm currently nearing the end of my first project with it but want to buy and upgrade to Corona 2.

Should I wait until this project is completed before upgrading, or are things stable enough that I shouldn't expect any potential issues with upgrading while I still have an active project running?

Any advice appreciated.
