We received a question from a client concerning the creation of a interactive 3D product viewer for one of their new products being launched. They want to embed the product viewer into their website and allow the user to rotate around the product using the mouse.

I've had a look at loads of different websites and the product viewers all appear to use very basic models plus there isn't much information out there about this. Can anyone shed any light on the best software out there to produce this / knowledge on how to go about this using Corona.

The best example I can find so far is off the Google SketchUp 3D Warehouse https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=ud240033c-6d8e-4564-9da2-ba6773861092

Many thanks in advance,
Max

As you said, there are probably lots of applications like this, I cannot suggest you any of them as I have never tried any, but I just wanted to understand if you are referring to applications that require multiple renders/photos and create a preview that can be rotated based on this (you could use Corona then), or the ones that display a 3d model - like the one you linked (you wouldn't need Corona for this)?

I think the best results would be a piece of software that displays numerous rendered images allowing the user to rotate the product. If the 3D model was used like with Sketchfab then the photorealism or using Corona would be lost?

Try lagoa.com. Should be a great fit if you play with it for a while.

Sample apps:
http://home.lagoa.com/product-configurator/jewelry/
http://home.lagoa.com/configurator/shoes/

Their git repo has good samples - https://github.com/lagoa/API-Samples/tree/master/samples

Thanks for the links to the different softwares. We don't really have time on this project to learn new software like the Lagoa.

Has anyone else had experience trying to do what I'm talking about?

Use this:

http://threejs.org/

They use that in http://www.123dapp.com/123C-3D-Model/Black-Moor-Goldfish/596506 just click in 3D button.

And in this link you will find everything that you possible need to implement it:
https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js

And this are the 3dsmax exporters for that:
https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js/tree/master/utils/exporters

Another idea is using a 3d pdf exporter. There is also a plugin for max that does that.
Search for "simlab pdf exporter" you could just add a link on a picture in the site to the 3d pdf.

One solution is webbased the other is a pdf file that you could send by mail or download and view when there is no connection.
