I've got to produce some sample render of some jewelery, and will need dispersion and caustics. Having done some years ago in finalrender what was great was to have a separate Caustics RE, and also a caustics multiplier per material. VMC and bidir seems to have disappeared at the moment, any info would be appreciated!

I'm thinking of kicking the adesk subscription out as I just don't like the way they are doing business, but wondering for future how many versions back of max will Corona support? Seems most plugin devs support the last 3, could be beneficial to everyone to support from say max 2015 then the last 3? I imagine Im not the only person thinking of pulling the plug on Adesk and sticking with my perpetual license..

Easiest way would be to just slap on a shell modifier to the walls.

Per polygon would be handy, iirc last time I had to mess around assigning random mat Id's to an object.

I think MR is actually included with 2017, but noticed on the mr/iray websites they are available for purchase which seems odd.
Mental ray is now installed separately (as a sub-component). so my mistake there.

Thanks guys, I'll check it all out.

Trust me they've  put a lot of work into the UI, and yes the main reason is for 4K monitors etc. IIRC the icons are available somewhere in an AI file format so scaling should no longer be an issue.
Not sure of the reasons for the art renderer, I think it's time adesk just stuck with one thing and developed it. But you can now buy iray and mr so read into that what you will.

A client has asked if I can do a web based setup where the customer can add kitchen units to a scene, choose materials and get a print out. My part would be all the modelling and texturing. Anyone got any experience of this?

Thanks Maru, thought I'd done that, maybe I missed in my haste!

Just copied over the dailies onto workstation and slave. Slave reporting above error, workstation rendering fin in bb mode. Any ideas folks?

That's in dire need of reflective caustics!

The required AOVs are as follows:
RGB: This is the beauty render
ALB: This is an albedo AOV, unshaded texture AOV
VIS: This is the visibility of the geometry to the lights, a suitable AOV for this would be a
shadow AOV
NOR: Forward Facing Normals with bump map preservation
POS: World Position
CAU: Caustics AOV
