Title: getting the hang of corona
Post by: skinny_santa on 2013-11-16, 02:13:11
i was trying this and this little thing is pretty amazing :)

the render times are insane maybe coz i cranked up settings too high

this wasa vray scene which i converted i deleted the lights and converted all the materials into corona material using dead clown's converter which worked flawlessly . after a few tweaks i was fine with materials
the lighting was done with a daylight only nothing else ( corona sun & corona sky )

getting ahead now i hope to have some community members to pick up the flaws in this and tell me how to improve myself
thanks ^_^

Are you using AO for the walls?

just don't use it, the GI will look much better without it, and it will be faster.

Good example why you shouldn't use AO for walls. :)

Your AO is to big, goes to fare.
Try to make smaller value for distance.
Another thing is to decrease opacity of AO.
Wood looks like to texture resolution is to small.

Sorry, maybe it's a dumb question, but I just want to make sure that I understand everything :)

So, above, when you are talking about AO. You mean you shouldn't use AO as a material on walls for example? Or you are talking about the additional render pass as AO?

ao as material
separate pass can easily be changed and tweaked ( ps \m/ )

Generally AO is fakery. It produces shadows that wouldn't be there in reality. It is true that it is darker close to the inner edges of rooms but it is darker - not blacker and GI will handle this without AO.

In Vray when using IR you have "enhance details" option that works pretty much like AO but instead of mindless darkening it focuses on better GI in occluded areas. In Corona default settings should be enough.

Reduce bump on the floor it's too strong, Did you use sun+hdri for the lighting? There's a purple'ish tint in the sunlight, looks like sunset, if so, the shadows should be way softer and the sunlight should be lover, anyway, looks weird.
Oh, and colors are painfuly oversaturated for my personal taste.
