[Max] Daily Builds / Daily Builds 1.5
« on: 2016-05-16, 21:00:15 »
Daily Builds Eligibility
  • Everyone with FairSaaS or Box with Subscription license now has access
  • No requests/applications necessary

How to Use Daily Builds

  • Get the Corona Universal Installer and install a regular version of Corona first, if you already havent done it already (https://corona-renderer.com/download/) and activate the license.
  • Go to https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mswauuv1afec8am/AAA5OKrd_QujokDM3mxQ7S40a and download a daily build. They are located in folders named using the date they were created.
  • Select the appropriate version. You will need to pick a legacy version if the Corona Universal Installer displayed a warning that it will install a legacy version (this happens on most AMD and old Intel CPUs. All i7/i5/i3 can run the regular, faster version).
  • Copy over the 4 files (plugins/Corona201x.dlr, plugins/CoronaUtils201x.dlt,  CoronaLib_Release.dll, and Corona_Release.dll) to your 3ds Max root folder. Make sure that all 4 files overwrite the already present files.
If you want to have the Dropbox folder synchronized with your desktop dropbox app, instead of having to access it via web, send your dropbox email to info@corona-renderer.com

Daily Builds Changelog

There is a separate topic for that: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,7238.0.html

Daily Builds Rules

  • USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Daily builds may contain unfinished features and not be stable, may damage your scene, freeze your 3ds Max, make you miss your deadline. Reverting scenes from daily to stable builds might not always be possible! Always make backups of important projects. Use daily builds with caution and common sense.
  • NO OBVIOUS-BUG REPORTS IN THIS THREAD/SECTION. To report a bug, use the bug reporting forum section or Mantis bug tracker. Discussion "Is this a bug?" is fine, but if something is clearly broken, please use the appropriate channels.
  • NO REPOSTING UNFINISHED FEATURES. Although we do not require signing NDA beforehand, we ask you not to repost info/screenshots/videos on unfinished features outside of Corona website. It could make Corona look unfinished/unstable to outsiders. When in doubt, ask first before reposting.

[Max] General Discussion / Corona 1.4 major new features
« on: 2016-05-05, 17:22:34 »
Hi, just a quick announcement: These are the major new features in Corona 1.4, and also the features we need you to test most in the release candidates (see https://corona-renderer.com/blog/corona-1-4-release-candidate-and-betatesting-giveaway/)

  • Corona now efficiently samples more than 255 lights in the scene
  • Added VFB history and comparison
  • Max 2017 support
  • Added virtual reality camera - as option in Corona camera modifier
  • Added texture baking
  • Added adaptive image sampling
  • Added denoising
  • Added velocity render element
  • Added interactive and multiple render region drawing into Corona VFB
  • Corona Scatter: Generating instances is now multithreaded. Speedup for typical quad core i7 is about 5 times
  • Corona Standalone is now part of the installer. If installed, it will be used automatically with the "Export+Render" button - no need to export to a folder where the standalone is copied. Still somewhat experimental
  • Switched rendering of all Corona Light/proxy/scatter display modes to nitrous. Drawing a lot of Corona objects (proxies/scatter in wire/pointcloud mode or CoronaLight) in a scene should now be faster.

« on: 2016-03-08, 10:57:58 »
Here is related blog post: https://corona-renderer.com/blog/corona-1-3-benchmark/

We have finally release an updated Corona Benchmark. It features automatic upload and verification of results, new scene, and Corona 1.3 core. Download the benchmark and view results here: https://corona-renderer.com/benchmark

In addition you can use this thread to share and discuss results, and report any problems.

edit: I am attaching the high-res version of the scene used here as a bonus

[Max] Daily Builds / Texture baking prototype
« on: 2016-01-31, 22:15:23 »

I have no idea what is the ideal workflow and what features are needed, so I need some help:
- is "Element background" color necessary?
- what types of output are required?
- is "projection mapping" necessary? If so, how is it used?

Corona Standalone / New standalone build, new XML format
« on: 2016-01-21, 15:06:36 »
We have updated the standalone format to use more powerful XML scene description. The new documentation is here: https://corona-renderer.com/wiki/standalone

Here is the build: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kgzu0cqy903ygmb/AAC0ENWTln7wrygel7qmHrF7a/!Standalone/2016-01-12%20new%20format%20%28exported%20from%201.4%20daily%29?dl=0 Link outdated

Any scene from 3ds Max can be exported by new daily builds to be used with this format, and the results look very similar. The export uses .cgeo (a.k.a. Corona proxy format), resulting in small export sizes. Most of 3ds Max shaders/maps are supported. The export gathers and relinks all bitmaps to single folder (similar to the "archive" function).

Joel is working on updating the blender exporter to use this new improved format.

Some limitations:
  • some maps are not exported - for example cellular bump, speckle, ...
  • 3dsmax native atmospheric effects and native lights are not exported
  • Noise map has different seed in standalone than in 3ds Max

Attached is an example. Notice that standalone is 30% faster

Jobs / New "job market" section
« on: 2015-11-23, 13:49:24 »
We created a new "jobs" section here on the forum. Feel free to search for contractors or in-house artists here, or offer your services. Any CG-related offer is welcome, but of course it makes most sense to post Corona-related positions here.

There are 2 rules:
  • This is a public forum. All responsibility is on its users. We do not provide guarantees for any job offer.
  • Only paid positions. No solicitation of free/sample/spec/nonprofit/... work
