Hi

I am currently using these two builds for work

Workstation

2x Xeon 2697v2
128gb ram
gtx 1060
Evga 650w

Node

Threadripper 1950x
64gb ram
gtx 660

I would like to hear opinions on my thoughts to upgrade

Node

3950x (900 eur)
Asus Strix x570 E (300 eur)
4x32 ddr4 (what frequency?) (or maybe 2x32gb would be sufficient for now) (350 eur)
some good cooling (80?)
case, psu, gpu and harddrive would remain as at present

Workstation

3950x (cooling? noctua?) (900 + 80 eur)
Asus Strix x570 E (300 eur)
4x32 ddr4 (what frequency?) (700 eur)
Gtx 1080ti (450 eur)
Psu? (100 eur)
Case? (100 eur)
Hdd? (probably will stick with current ones or maybe add one new 2tb)

I am expecting this two builds to fit into 4.5k budget

Thanks for recommendations

Do you need more computers? I am asking only in case if you didn't, one more powerful is better than multiple weaker.

For 32GB modules, only the Corsair is currently available, and the correct bins are 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16 (they're probably the same with the latter of slightly better binning).
In early 2020 there should be more options, but right now just this.

I need two computers for having luxury rendering constantly (or when it is needed) on node while working on the main one as I can not imagine rendering and at the same time working on another project with IR etc on one computer

But I realized it would be better to build one more powerful computer and let one of the two current ones be a node (and sell the other one)

Therefore I decided to go for TR 3960x + ASUS ROG STRIX TRX40-E + 128gb RAM + 1080ti

One question though - is windows reinstall essential when changing all components save hard drives or would it work when I just switch disks from current builds?

Thanks !

It's possible to migrate the Windows installation on your system drive using software dedicated to it. I highly suggest against.

Other harddrives you just swap.
