General CG Discussion / Max Standart shaded mode problem.

Hello there everyone. I am using 2017 max 64bit. GPU: Titan X pascal. Latest drivers.

I am getting same problem as this guy does, basically in standart shaded mode I get transparent objects with visible lines ;/

Does anyone know how to sort this out? Max is runing on directx 11. Nitrous.

Hello there everyone,

I have this issue with corona layered material.

Really simple - I am creating a beach scene.

So material setup really simple: Corona LayeredMtl. The base mtl has a DRY sand with displacement and the second material below has a WET sand (no displacement)

And I am masking these to with a map channel 2. Black and WHITE MASK.

When I press render I can see the dry and wet sand blending fine. But the whole plane(beach) is using displacement from the base material. Even the wet sand area has displacement. (AND IT DOES NOT)

Its like its working with the duffuse and such but displacement is only working on the base material. ;/

Can anyone help how to solve my problem.

How should I approach this situation.

I want the dry sand displaced and the wet sand becoming FLAT. (no dispalcement)

Something that I have designed on my free time. And rendered in corona of course :) An amazing tool for rendering.

[Max] I need help! / CORONA SUN+ SKY VS HIGH QUALITY HDRI

Hello there,

this thing that I have to get off my chest.

The purpose of using a HQ HDRI versus just corona sun+SKY.

WHY?

I did some tests simple scene nothing special just to see how the lighting works and the shadows are behaving.

I did put a high quality HDRI from www.hdri-skies.com and mediterraneanlight.

the thing is I was able re-create that effect and that lighting of a specific HDRi with just corona sky and sun controlling them together almost 95% accurate.

Which I have never was capable to do with VRAY sun and sky. Vray sun and sky works a lot different than corona sun and sky. Its just not the same thing.

So I am in a cross road now. I can use Corona sun +sky for the lighting and I can put whatever HDRi map in the reflection, refraction, direct visible slot. For nice reflections.

+with sun+sky you have a lot more control regarding animations sunrise - sunset and so on.

Anyways - I would like to know what is your opinion on this one regarding ONLY CORONA sun+SKY VS HDRI.

Because corona sun+SKY is a very good quality HDRI alike replica. With very nice easy controls.

I am just curious what other people think or have to say from their own experience.

Hello there,

Just wanted to ask for rendering images from 10 000 to 25 000px with corona.

What Render settings should I tweak? Because in a 15k image you can introduce noise, that will not be seen that much. Because its a massive image and it will be printed o a massive wall or fence. With for example 72dpi.

For example to do it with vray is very easy. Just lower the MIN MAX in iraddiance map for example -8-4 or even higher and lower down the color threshold to 0.03 or 0.04 ant it will render it blazing fast.

What about corona. I am on corona 1.5.2

I have 128GB of ram DDR4 2400. MEMORY is not a big problem for me.

Hello everyone,

I started using corona after 9 years of Vray.

And I noticed one big issue with corona light plane,disc,sphere does not matter which shape it is.

So it has:

Visible Directly
Effect Reflections
Effect Refractions
Oclude other lights

So for example. Lets just say I have a quite big room and only one pendant light in the middle of the room. A put extra 2 corona planes just to push some more light in.
So I remove visible directly and oclude other lights check box. So what do I get? I get a nicely light scene, with speculars on my materials from those lights and everyhing.

But what I also get an ugly reflection in the mirror of those two corona light planes. So thats fair enough - I go to those corona lights and turn Effect reflection OFF. And there I get no ugly reflectionin the mirror of them.

But I did notice another thing that I am not getting those speculars from those two planes anymore. The materials became flat and dead. And corona light does not have a checkbox called effect speculars.

Basically if you turn OFF effect reflections you are loosing all the speculars at the same time. Which to me sounds weird. Is there a way to seperate reflections from speculars with corona light?
