I have an area disc light with 100% directionality, but the light still disperses conically - otherwise it would stay parallel and just illuminate the cylinder cap.
Bad for laser effects in fog.

Have you tried passing it through a hole after it is set to 100% directionality?

We already had a couple of Q's about this here:
Spot light beam angle and CoronaLight Directionality

Do as advised by TomG, there's no other way (for now).

To my surprise this did not help/work either.

Thanks for the links.
So there is nothing but to wait and wonder.

or you could model a laser,
but note, since light source is "hard to find" & experimental bidir VCM engine is no longer available (+ I'm not aware, nor have I experimented to check, if there's any other new engine/tech in Corona for such cases), I'd expect "noise & long gone days"

For now I am going with thin cylinders with a lightmaterial.
Although I am not worried about render times. I won't be the one rendering it ;)

Maybe faking it with a spline might pass? ;)

I hadn't even noticed that spline rendering was in already, nice! Cool update (the chemtrails are cool, too ;))

What both spline rendering and my cylinder substitute are missing, though, is the interaction with the fog medium. Lasers are invisible per se, just passing through "fog" makes them visible, so a noisy fog just does that. I can fake it with opacity noise in the (light) material.
