Dear Corona team, I really don't understand the logic behind removing the “Legacy behavior” checkbox from the round edges map in corona 8.
It is a useful feature for many users as already discussed on forum when round edges behavior was first changed in Corona 1.6.
Workaround for this is to use map from older scenes but why complicate.
In my opinion the checkbox was not only there to keep compatibility with older versions but as great additional feature to round edges map.
Instead of removing it I suggest renaming it to "ignore overlapping edges" or something similar.
Please consider this for some hotfix for Corona 8.Thanks!

Thanks, we have this logged with multiple possibilities such as bringing back the "legacy" checkbox or adding this as a regular feature.

Yes please :)

Please # !!!
Agree with Marijan, the legacy behavior should be a feature!
-
It would be really helpful to have the legacy option, as a lot of times the 3d models of the buildings are not clean, and with the new option there are a lot of round edges where there should not be.
The legacy option solved this easily, the other option is to remodel the objects :/
-
in addition to this, the legacy mode made it possible to round the edges of thin objects, I vote 'yes" if this functionality is returned)
-
TBH, I use this feature in every scene.
Besides bringing it back, it would be best if you named it. It's not a "legacy", it's the main feature!
-
This is so necessary!
-
Hm... there's a "Legacy behavior" option/checkbox. Have you tried it?
-
Actually, there isn't in Corona 8 - from the release blog, "– From now on, the “Legacy behavior” checkbox is not visible in newly created Corona Round Edges maps. For already created Corona Round Edges maps it remains visible if already checked."
-
Well, it's there, in a fresh new scene and working just fine.

There isn't one in Corona 8 for 3ds Max, that's why I started this discussion.
Unfortunately this is also not changed in Corona 8 hotfix 2.
Looks like we have to hope for a better future :)
-
As a workaround, you can temporarily install older Corona version, where this feature is still present, apply material with rounded edges map to some dummy object and save max scene to well accessible place. Everytime you'll need legacy option, you will have to merge that dummy object in your current scene and grab the map from it. Not ideal situation, but still better than nothing.

Oh, I missed I was in 3DS Max section... my bad.
Well, I hope nudge helped a bit ;)
-
We are thinking about bringing the legacy checkbox back. Can't promise it right now, but will keep everyone updated.
Meanwhile, here is a workaround that works in V8:
RoundEdgesLegacy-all.ms - enables the legacy option for all Corona Round Edges maps in the scene
RoundEdgesLegacy-selected.ms - enables the legacy option for one Corona Round Edges map currently selected in the Slate Material Editor

Hi Maru,
it seems that RoundEdgesLegacy scripts doesn't work in Corona 9.
Can you please provide some information how to fix this, or about plans for integrating this feature in round edges map permanently.

The script from my previous message seems to work fine for me. Just tried with Max 2022, Corona 9. What exactly is wrong when you run it?
Attaching proof :)
-
It just does not work when the RoundEdges node is set to "fast". Maybe you should add a line "map.algorithm=0" to the script(s) to ensure the RoundEdges maps are set to "precise".
Good Luck

Yes, that was the problem.
Thank you!

Any updates on this? Will it make it to v10?
Would be great to have legacy option back/checkbox to make use of previous behaviour.
Workarounds are quite annoying to use and we do need legacy behaviour pretty much on daily basis.
Thanks!
-
There's nothing in the plans for it at the moment, sorry.
-
I see, that's a shame but thanks for an update!
-
Hello,
please bring this option back, it's a mess on imported geometry from Revit and ArchiCAD as walls etc are mainly separated blocks, it RUINS every façades.
Do you plan to include it into C9Hf2 ?
-
There's nothing in the plans for it at the moment. This would include 9 HF2 (plus this is more the addition of a feature, even if it was a "pre-existing feature", which means it would not be considered for going in a hotfix anyway which are always pure bug fixes).
-
Due to popular demands, we have brought back the legacy option in v10.
You can grab the latest daily build and try it out here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=38385.msg213025#msg213025

Hi Rowan,
this is most welcome, no need to use scripts to fix a scene any more. I'd suggest implementing that "legacy" behavior as "angle threshold" in the new code, where we can decide when coplanar triangles stop to be such and start to be processed as edge.
Good Luck

hello!
Sorry if this is not the right place to post this.
I cant seem to get round edges map to work properly in an object with different poligons.
here the pictures. The map seems to change 1 of the edges to the correct form when I change the tick to "same material only", but not the other edges.
thank you very much for the help, I am very new to 3ds max and corona!
-
Hi,
this issue has been solved in recent daily build by bringing back "legacy" behaviour. It will be available in Corona 10
-
thank you very much.
So at the moment there is no way to work around this? have to wait for corona 10 or redo the model to make it 1 poligon?
thanks
-
You can download V10 daily build from the link below and use the
new old feature in rounded edges today. Just make sure to read daily builds FAQ (available in the same link) and understood the risk of using daily builds. The most recent build is already reached release candidate state, so should be close to final in terms of features and stability.
