A concept image done a while ago (1.4). Tried to make it work in another render engine first but the sss took ages to get somewhat noise free. Corona managed it surprisingly fast.

It's a halfway melted winegum Napoleon figurine. I know that's pretty weird, but concept development sometimes leads you to the funniest places, right!

It was sculpted in Zbrush (along with the horse) and then slightly edited in 3ds max to get the melting parts just right. Wanted to melt it with a deformer, but that never worked out though.

I can say with hand on heart that it's the first render I've ever seen of a halfway melted wine gum Napoleon :) As you say, concept dev can take you to all sorts of strange - but wonderful! - places. TY for sharing how it was done :) And now I crave sweets again!
