Title: 1.7 - Skin shader playground and feedback
Post by: maru on 2017-09-07, 15:28:09
Let's share test renders and discuss ui/settings/workflow of the new Skin mtl and SSS settings inside the Corona mtl (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000570015)!

Playing around with a free model from https://threedscans.com/

My test... CoronaSkinMtl is so good and easy to use!
Believe me or not, this is my first Skin shader of my whole life!
Almost standard setting and four maps.

(*) Color
(*) Reflection (one for skin and one for the eyes)
(*) Bump

that's all!

Second this, i don't know much about skin shading, and just playing around with the digital emily model, its very easily to get one rendered out. Just using a diffuse, spec, displace and bump map. The settings are very easy to understand what they do.

I love how simple it is to use, and how effective and artistic you can make it with few changes.

I used the scene shared above but replaced the material with a standard corona mtl and tweaked the new SSS options, so NO use of skin shader.

I just give it a try. Very easy to use. I didn´t tweaked anything. This was made in 10min (render including) over an old, unpolished model of mine. No uvs, or textures. Everything is rough here.

Hope to have time do test it on a proper model soon ! Seems a nice addition !

I am not entirely sure. :)
Most of the materials are straightforward to set up, but one tricky part is that there is a kind of object "on top" of the eye, and in that object you have to cut out a hole so that iris+pupil is visible (for example using a gradient ramp set to radial mode).

That was 5 years ago, I am sorry, but I am not able to provide that file any more. Most likely, it would be also incompatible because of different Corona/3ds Max versions.
