In my opinion, check the lighting than check the materials and last but not least check the design :)

Indeed most are a bit too dark, even for the scene you chose which is secluded and a bit dark.

But love the atmosphere and styling of the scene. All the nice clean renders are great and all for arch viz, but this has character :)

Just brighten it up a bit, but keep nice contrast.
