As you determined, this is not possible in Corona at the moment. The corrections exist in the VFB for those who do not want to have to use any third party post processing program, so that they can control the final look of their image right in the VFB, and save a final from that and boom, they are done. When you want to rebuild the layers in Photoshop for some more refined control, then the tone mapping needs to be done there in the post-processing software instead and what is in the VFB becomes kind of irrelevant, other than setting it for "quick previews" or "draft images".
You could post the "save tonemapping to some file readable by Photoshop" in the Feature Requests section, so that it can be added to our list of things we can consider for future development.
