Hello guys! I've been trying to do an animation for the last days but for some reason the bloom and glare effect is not working for some of the frames. I tried to fix it by changing the secondary solver but there was no improvement.  The only way I can see some glare in those frames is by reducing the resoliution a lot or in the IR preview. Any idea what this could be?

I am attaching the frame 19 and 20 so you can see the big difference between them

Thanks!

If you render the problem frame again individually (ie not rendering the whole image sequence), does it still have no b&g off the water? Not suggesting this as a fix, just as a diagnostic piece of info, ie this frame always renders incorrectly vs. this frame randomly renders incorrectly.

Hi, it always looks incorrect no matter I do it individually or not. I found 2 things it may give you some info:

-Whenever I render it on a lower resolution glare works as it should.
-By clicking on Legacy v5 glare solver solution glare also works.

This leads me to think it is a sort of bug.

Additionally I can also say I have similar problems with caustics (never showing on heavy scenes or high res but always showing in the IR). It looks kinda related but no idea what could be. For now and since I am in a rush I am just using the v5 legacy for the glare even is not as good as the new solver.

Caustics and B&G most likely unrelated, as one is done during light transport (caustics) and the other is just applied as a 2D effect after all pixels are rendered. If you don't mind could you share a little more info - at what sort of resolution does the B&G stop working (we already know about caustics having problems at higher resolutions btw so we can focus here just on b&g), and how much RAM does your system have? Thanks!

Sorry yes, I have 64GB of RAM and a Ryzen 9 3900x. Working with Corona 8 for 3ds Max 2021.

Whenever I go over 1080 is when problems are starting to happen. Even if I open the IR and I make the window bigger (over 1080) it suddenly stops working and starting to show some red and green glare dots to later on dissapear completely. Sometimes by turning the glare on and off and increasing the size to 100 + reducing the threshold to 0 it starts working even I go back to normal values, like it needs a little push to start.

Hi, is it possible to share the scene with us? If possible, without the boat or any non-essential textures/assets just the water and the lighting setup.

Hi,

Is your issue now solved? or you are still looking for a solution?

I had this happen, too - it's almost like bloom and glare has different size/intensity settings for a few frames, then it goes back to normal. I have a 300 frames animation and bloom&glare is unstable for 10-15 frames, then goes back to normal, then again becomes muted for a few frames, back to normal. It's almost as if some extreme value within the frame (maybe from an unresolved hot pixel, or maybe even a negative value) triggers it into a muted result... When inspecting the frames where this happens I don't see much difference but maybe you folks have some better way to analyze them. I can provide some frames for you (can't share the scene unfortunately).

Hi,

Thank you for your response. It would be helpful if you could provide reproducible steps and a frame where this issue is occurring. It would be even better if you could provide a simple scene or a portion of the scene so that we can reproduce the issue and work on improving it further.

I'm not sure it's easily reproducible without the scene as is - which I can't share. But I'll submit some frames where the change occurs, something in the image data must be there to trigger bloom&glare into that 'muted' mode which you can hopefully spot. Thanks!

I've submitted a ticket - #86790 - containing an animation file and some frames with and without the problem (so you can compare and hopefully track down what's causing it).

I'd be happy to see this resolved. Thank you in advance!
