[Max] Feature Requests / Re: The most wanted feature?
« on: 2022-08-04, 12:45:22 »
Even when they're not realistic enough for direct visibility, they may be invaluable tool for modulating the light quality (both inside and outside).

So you think that the clouds will affect the lighting? Wow, i didn't think about that. They probably will be quite expensive to render then.

I'm pretty sure Vray implementation was done in the way clouds affects the lighting. That's what I was actually the most amazed by and I really look forward to seeing it in Corona.
It's already on Trello board board V9 so cannot wait to see it in dailies.

We are doing clouds until then ;)

Yesss! Can't wait for that!

Being able to save user presets and load them from the "library" within scatter interface would be absolutely brilliant, that would surely help with assets management for bigger studios with multiple artists working at the same project.

Oh wow! That was unexpected, thought no new features are planned for next update, great stuff!

Hi guys, FYI, next build of Corona will introduce these 2 new options to the converter:
- Option to disable conversion of LegacyMtl to PhysicalMtl (any other materials will still be converted directly into PhysicalMtl though)
- Option to disable metalness autodetection and instead force the conversion to either metal or non-metal

Great to heat that. Thanks for listeining guys!

Hi, I guess this has still not been adressed and natively supported in corona.
What are best practices for a UDIM workflow in 3ds Max Corona Renderer (RC6)? Pass each map into a composite node and offset the tile for the respective UDIM?

@cjwidd , have you found a good way of importing UDIM tiles to 3ds max to render in Corona?
Thanks!

Hi!
I second comments in the above posts. I love the new aerial perspective volume effect and the way it enhances some of our shots.
It would be great if it worked fine with other corona options like direct visibility override, not only with Corona sky.
The fact that it appears in Lightmix under "rest" tab is very problematic though.
It would be great to have it under Volumetrics category. Ideally, to have an extra option to render it as a separate render element only (like we can choose with caustics).

Hi! Just a followup on the above before the Corona 8 release.
Will you have a chance to implement some of the suggested solutions to v8?
I think the key one would be to separate the aerial perspective from "rest" element in lightmix.
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm using passes limit only. All others set to 0.

71
Thanks GeorgeK
I can later send over the file we used for this if it helps your investigation.
Cheers!

Hi Romullus,
I think Corona surely is not taking into account the fact that only the small portion of image is being rendered, although we are not using noise level condition.
We use passes limit, 30 in that case, and it's not the estimated time that is wrong, but the actual rendering time.

Rendering region of the approximately similar size as the object we we're trying to re-render in "render selected" mode is just SO much faster (i.e whole image render time = 20min, region render time = 3mins, render selected mode = 40mins!).
Unfortunately rendering region does not work for animated sequence as our object (wheels) is obviously moving all over the place in every next frame.

Just wanted to touch base on the above issue.
I had an impression this is not working ok in the past, although this week we had to re-render some elements in animated sequence, and indeed we encounter exactly the same issue.
The whole frame in HD resolution takes 20mins to render, if we use render selected option (from Render Setup -> Scene) and include list (i.e car wheels only), rendering time increases to 40mins minimum or more.
That is quite bizarre. Especially that our frame looks like the attached, two wheels, not very reflective.
We are using max 2022, latest corona 7 (hotfix1).
Can this be investigated before the release of Corona 8?

General CG Discussion / Re: Corona vs Vray in 2022
« on: 2022-02-02, 15:47:24 »
I think perhaps you need to look into ways of optimising your 3ds max scenes. Using proxies, instances, displaying heavy poly objects as boxes etc, the workflow is quite different to what you might have dealt with in Lumion.

Upgrading to 64gb of ram will surely help too, Corona is quite RAM hungry compared to other engines.

From our side, we work on huge masterplans and terrains, even with very cautious optimisation our scenes often are much larger that 1gb, and yet we cannot really complaint much about Corona performance.

hey Frood! Ha! I was just going through that thread and saw you were doing something with reverting back to prev lightmix so that got my hopes up! My max script knowledge is however more or less 0, but the nice support guy from pulze offered to cooperate on a script. Is it ok I send him your script and what you just stated? That may get the ball rolling :)

Hey Jens,
Any success with writing the script or finding an alternative solution to the problem described in your original post?
We're looking for ways to automate the process with saving different lighting setups too.
Many thanks!
