steps:
open clear max and material editor
open material library from other max file with project and geometry
merge any material from this library to material editor
instantly you get a piece of geometry from another scene into you clean open max in layer with
with a layer name addition "_Recovered"
is very difficult when you want to get material from another project
i think it has something to do with materials containing connections like Corona Distance map

Hi,

I have tried to repro it but for me its working fine on Corona 10 and 3ds Max 2024.1. Which version of Corona and 3ds Max you are using? Though it sounds more like a 3ds Max issue than Corona but we would want to be sure so, I would like to further investigate this issue. Can you please DM me your ".Mat" file where this is reproducible?

".Mat" file

It's about a max scene used as library, not a mat file. And it's by (Max) design that dependencies get merged as well (as mentioned: for example when importing a material using CoronaDistanceMap). The layername "_Recovered" may be the layer where the dependency is saved in the scene, can't say.

However it can be considered as a Max bug, that -at least for me- just loading the scene as material library, without even importing any materials from it, is enough to get dependencies merged into the scene. That should not happen (Max 2023/2024/Corona v9/v10).

Good Luck

Hi,

Thanks for the clarification. Upon further investigation, I found that this is also reproducible using just native 3ds Max nodes. We have logged this in our system and will forward this to the Autodesk team.
