Just want to second this. Might be time to start considering making Corona GPU?

Just adding to this forum as well. Being able to convert from octane would be awesome and go a long way towards pushing more people to use corona!

Just bumping in hopes that this will be seen. Currently the only software I've been able to find that can convert Octane is FStorm, and nothing converts from FStorm. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I know this may be a tall order, given how unique Octane's engine structure is, but being able to convert from Octane would make a huge difference for my studio. This would allow my studio to finally make the switch to Corona. We desperately need to be able to convert from Octane to save on time and efficiency for future projects.

Thank you!

You can do by yourself!
I'm my original thread, you can download the FStom .max file and the Corona .max file.

I'm not FStom user, sorry. I used the FStom DEMO version, one year ago.

If you will do the test, please, post the result ;-)

Ahh, I had hoped you were.  Neither are we, and we don't have access to the newest version of it. Maybe someday, once it's available, I can take a whack at it.

For a serious comparative, you should use the same light setup. Also, don't use any converter, but convert by hand with the better setup.

If you want to try, this is my old test, converted by me, from FStorm file to Corona 1.3 (yes, I should try with the new Coroa v1.7) .

--- LINK---

If you look the 18 minutes FStorm test (Titan X + GTX980Ti) and my test  with very old 7 970 six core, (15 minutes)  Corona wins.
Why? Because with less rendering time and with very old CPU I have more or less the same quality or, even, better quality than an expensive dual GPU rendering.
Of course, we should try with the new version of Fstorm and Corona v1.7. Also the Fstorm original rendering ( I found it in the FStorm forum) was in JPG and not in PNG.

But, I'm very curious to see a test with two rig with the same price. For example, a new 700 GPU with new 700 CPUm with the last version of both softwares.

PS: remember that in Corona v1.3 there weren't any bloom or glare.

If you can, I would really like to see a comparison with the newest version of fstorm and the newest version of corona. My studio may be making a render engine change soon and this would be very helpful in the decision making process.

Thank you!

Guys, please stop the wave of hate, stay calm, and take a look at https://corona-renderer.com/blog/new-horizons-plans-for-2017-and-beyond/

Honestly, as long as the worst doesn't happen (phasing out of Corona), this is pretty awesome. Independent teams doing what they think is best for the customers while being able to share knowledge with who used to be their biggest competitor. The benefits of it are already being seen in the newest dailies for 1.7. I'm extremely excited to be able to render both corona and v-ray materials, lights, etc with either engine. That compatibility alone is worth it's wait in gold. Hours of time can be wasted converting materials and lights.

Probably not shut down, but cripple, take all the goods and raise price, apsolutely! Many studio use Corona with alot of subscriptions, this is definetly changing it. Very bad move guys.

Based on this post from Corona, it seems there should be little cause for concern.

So this is happening now!? https://www.chaosgroup.com/news/render-legion-and-corona-join-chaos-group-family What can we expect with this? At my studio, there's both excitement and concern. I see that corona will be implementing Vray's DMC in 1.7. Is there any worry that one day Choas group will shut down Corona? Comments, questions, concerns, etc?

Cheers!

Edit: Not sure if this is the right spot for this, so I've made a topic in the general discussion forum.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Resolution for GEAR VR
« on: 2016-05-10, 15:38:04 »
I recently tried this same workflow for a stereoscopic 360 video and the wall I kept running into is that I needed to convert my video to an .mp4. I can't find any software that will allow me to export an 8k x 8k or even a 4k x 4k video, because MP4's max resolution is 4096 x 2304. The only possible solution I have found around this is buying a license of KRpano. KRpano allows you to input two separate sets of image sequences (one for each eye) and it does the rest for you. The problem is that I want to be able to post 4k and 8k video to youtube, and I just can't find a way.

Anyone happen to have a solution to this?

Thanks!

Beautiful work! Out of curiosity, how close were your raw renders to the finals?

Again though, amazing work!
