Hardware / Re: Samsung SSD 980 Pro and 990 Pro problems
« on: 2023-04-04, 16:12:01 »
Thanks Juraj! I also bought always Samsung SSDs, this time i also went with 990 PRO 2 TB. But i am buying always form official resellers or directly from Samsung (sometimes they had the lowest price from all shops).

James did You update firmware regulary? Do you know how many TB of data you had written on the drive just before it went bad? Did you control the disk usage and its lifespan in percent by an application, e.g. CrystalDiskInfo?

Hardware / Samsung SSD 980 Pro and 990 Pro problems
« on: 2023-03-31, 10:08:32 »
Does the latest firmware of Samsung 980 PRO and 990 PRO drives fix all errors? I read that there was a problem with the 980 PRO in terms of sudden failures and in the case of the 990 PRO with the rapid degradation of the life of the drive?

Generally at this point, which drive is better to buy 980 PRO 2TB or 990 PRO 2TB? Is it worth paying extra around 50 euros for a newer version?
Is it enough to buy the version without a radiator, or is it worth paying extra for the version with a radiator? Temps are ok without rad?

And the last question, do you know when the 990 PRO in the 4TB version will come out, it was supposed to premiere in February or March but it's still not there?

Thanks for help! :)

Hardware / Best SSD for file server/nas
« on: 2022-01-26, 17:40:32 »
Hi, I am going to buy a SSD for the file server for the first time instead of a HDD. Which SSD is best for this type of task, what do you recommend? I really care about the durability and the highest possible capacity. I consider drives such as:

Samsung 870 QVO 8TB - due to the capacity though, I know it uses an inferior type of cell
Samsung 860/870 EVO 4 TB - due to the better construction technique

And what about SSDs, typically for NAS, such as:

WD Red SSD
Seagate IronWolf SSD
Synology SSD SAT5200

Thank you for your help

Hardware / Sharing drive in Windows vs NAS
« on: 2021-10-14, 10:56:21 »
I have been a user of NAS type servers for many years, but now everything is full and I am looking for a new solution to store mainly libraries I need every day. I am tired of dedicated NAS solutions and mechanical HDDs.

I wanted to build my own custom NAS with SSD only but while doing research I came to the conclusion that the best components for building servers with the possibility of connecting multiple PCI, M2 and SATA disks are the most expensive components such as AMD Threadripper Pro, HPTX or XL-ATX motherboards, Super Tower cases or Ultra Tower, and these parts we use to build our workstations and it is not profitable to double the expenses to build a separate server.

Hence my question, maybe it is better to buy several SSD drives for the current workstation, move libraries there and share them in Windows 10 Pro with another computer in the studio. What do you think about it?

Thanks for your feedback and help.

Hi, i have a problem with converting Evermotion V-Ray trees. After using Corona converter (also with option Fix opacity map) leaves have a bad material which is too dark. I played with translucency map, but still the effect isn't good enough. Do You have any tips to fix that quickly for many trees in one scene? Thanks for help!

Hardware / Re: UHD 4k Monitor and 3ds Max 2018 - Blurry UI
« on: 2018-09-24, 19:24:04 »
There is just one more issue, when using as main 4k monitor with scaling 125 or 150% and addtional one or two monitors which most of us have which probably is 24/27/30 FullHD/2k monitor (without scaling). All the panles which we keep on side on older screen like materials, layers, enviroment, render settings etc are blurry since they belong to 3ds max app which is scaled on UHD monitor. There is any way to keep 4k monitor with scaling 125%, and keep all 3ds max panels on 2k monitor on side without blur, crisp and sharp?

Ok, i think i the found cause, i didn't set 4k monitor as main one, in win settings it was set up as adittional screen and main was my old Eizo CX271, now when 4K monitor i set up as main scaling works fine i think. Can You check an attachemnt to see if now it looks exactly like Yours? (now it is set up to 125% scaling) Thanks for help!

That's what i thought. Yes i have all service packs installed, windows and all drivers updated to latest version. Hardware spec GTX 980, DisplayPort-DisplayPort cable 1.2 60hz, system see the monitor as one screen so it isn't multi stream. Beside changing windows scaling to 125% did You do anything to have crystal clear UI?

Thanks for the help and reply Juraj. I tried Windows Fix blurriness option and properties of 3ds Max app (application, system, enchanced options) but all of this gives nothing.  Below i've attached screens of how looks my Max on 4k display with diffrent app version and scaling: 2018 100%, 2018 - 125% 2016 - 100% and 2016 - 125%. Can You confirm if those looks exactly the same on Yours screen, just to be sure that i am not doing something wrong?

Hardware / UHD 4k Monitor and 3ds Max 2018 - Blurry UI
« on: 2018-09-22, 22:24:08 »
Recently i moved to 32 inch UHD 4k monitor using 3ds Max 2018, because since 2018 version Max is stated that fully supports 4k resolution with and without windows scaling (150% is recommended). But when i am using scaling 125 or 150% (In upadted to latest version of Windows 10) everything is blurry in Max, there is any solution to get crisp and sharp text and icons in Max with scaling, so it looks so sharp like without scaling? By the way Max 2016 and 2018 looks exactly the same on UHD monitor without and with scaling, i heared that Max 2016 looks like disaster on 4k monitors?
