Hi,
I decide to use Corona for a production render. It is for a contract, so the time line we had for preparing the scene is very very short!! so please don't consider the details. I try this version of the image with low external light (from planes with Corona portal material, one for each  window) and I've adjusted a little the contrast in post. I find the light distribution very cool!
Btw, the scene has about 12M polygons and it take 8h30' for 500 passes, using a I7 980 3.33GHz.

[Max] General Discussion / A thought about Corona diffusion
« on: 2013-04-10, 18:58:13 »
For my renders I'm using mr, since ever. I like its result, but it has some limits and sometime I loose a lot of time to solve them.
I'm having some test with Corona and I find it a good product, considering it is a very new product in its alpha developing step.
I like to share this thought: almost everything we can find on the web (I'm talking about models, materials, scripts and so on...) is prepared for Vray, so Vray become the best choise if you don't want to spend your time converting and adapting everything you download from the Net.
I think that if you want to have a large distribution of your sw you need to do a great work in preparing a plugin to convert lights and materials (and everything else convertible) in the best way, so a new corona user can easily and quickly use his library and his scene. I'm using the material converter I found in the forum (all my thanks to the programmer who wrote it!!) but the conversion from MR materials is not so good (I'm going to modify the script to improve it, most of all for gloss materials, than I'll send you my work).

IMHO, this is a focal point in a commercial context.

My 2 cents,
Alessandro

The scene is not large. It has MR material, and I use a Corona material to override them.
Today I've just have a new test: if I convert all the MR material to corona, the Parsing time become very short.
I'm going to send you the file to your email, so you can have some test if you like.

Take care,
Alessandro

Edit:
please, don't share the sofa model, we design it for a client and we haven't the permission to share it. Thanks.

My test:
Living room 100 passes
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 980 @ 3.33GHz
Time: 0:4:7, Rays/s: 5,144,989

But I think the most important result is that in 5 seconds you have a very good preview you can give to your client, it's amazing!

Hi everybody, I'm new in this forum!
Testing this cool render engine, in an existing scene, it takes a long (some minutes) time during "Parsing the scene" step, just before start with the render. During this time CPU use is about 8%... Is it me or is normal?
Is it possible to save scene parsing, and reuse it when we are working on the lights or materials?

Thx,
Alessandro
