[C4D] Bug Reporting / C4d - Corona - Edge Trimming
« on: 2023-10-16, 16:23:45 »
Edge Trimming only works when a corona scatter is not placed within a null.

Once you make it a child of a null, edge trimming doesn't work. This seems to be the case in R25, not tested other c4d's as this is the most stable for me.

[C4D] Feature Requests / Lightmix Per Camera - c4d
« on: 2023-10-13, 15:01:18 »
Lightmix is pretty powerful when it comes to easily adjusting look and feel, However i find that when you have multiple cameras in a scene, it can be frustrating having to save out various files with various lightmix configs turned on for each file.

You may a different lighting of a space, in c4d the use of the take manager allows for multiple camera setups however, currently only one lightmix config can be active per file. It would be good to either allow the multipass to save a variety of lightmix passes for each camera, or in settings allow for a lightmix config to be selected per camera.

[C4D] General Discussion / Corona Renderer Statistics
« on: 2022-03-14, 12:02:04 »
I'm looking for some information on what each of the statistics in the corona VFB mean:

i.e. the following

What each of them means and what can be improved on a scene level to decrease render times.

More just out of interest as this info is available to us but i can't find any info on their meanings.

Cheers

[C4D] Bug Reporting / IES Lights and Reflections
« on: 2021-06-22, 17:14:18 »
Is it known that IES Profiles won't show the light in reflections? I can't see any topics on it so thought i'd raise one

Im creating a content library of models for our studio and just wondering if there is a quick way of saving renders, so i dont have to manually change the names

I'm looking to

Place object in a studio scene,
Hit render, for it to save an output
Delete object
Place next object
Hit render, then for it to save next output incrementally.

Theres an option in render queue to not overwrite saved render files, but i can't see something similar within the render settings.

So i've set up a bunch of stills for a client over the weekend. These are all set for 05:30 hours limit due to the time available over the weekend and this has been going for 08:30 hours so far?

[C4D] Feature Requests / Render onto Last
« on: 2020-10-23, 14:32:57 »
I've only just found the resume render button from the drop down of render and slapped myself. Very useful.

I was then thinking how about a render onto last feature. Sometimes im happy with the quality overall, but get some noise in places (some reflective materials, shadows etc). How about a render on to last button, which allows you to change settings (i.e. chose viewport selection) then give certain objects a bit of a boost, without losing the overall render?

Came across this after rendering an image for a client. I like to slightly motion blur my people in situations, set off a render in queue last night with the introduction of some volumetric fog to my scene.

If the Volumetric object material is on a mesh which covers your selection, it doesn't render the selection.

Maybe it's just this way but thought i'd bring it up. I can set up a small scene if you aren't able to replicate it later on to show what i mean

I'm having some issues sometimes with Material viewport preview size since updating.

When you switch from a lower size to a higher dimension it can freeze for 10-15 seconds or more and lags for a couple minutes before the viewport is useable again. It happens on Procedural and bitmapped materials.

Here's a boring video to watch of what i mean :P. I'll leave it to you to discuss. I can use 512x512 for now with about a second lag

Hey, in the new candidate release, when saving from the VFB the save button / Save all button, defaults to openexr as expected, but it seems to save out .rla files.

There is a work around if you flick between one of the other file types and back to openexr file time, then it saves exrs but as said above it seems to default to rla.

Could one of you take a look at it when you have time.

This is on MacOS, c4d r21.026, Corona Version 6

Cheers,

Any other information you need, let me know.

I've been playing round alot with lightmix lately, but as it doesn't have denoise function. What is the correct way to comp lightselect layers so that it is the same as light mix if anyone has a workflow for this that would be greatly appreciated

[C4D] General Discussion / Light Direction - Viewport Icon
« on: 2020-07-21, 13:43:30 »
Just wondering how you can tell the light direction from the viewport icon? In max you have it so the Light direction is shown as little rays coming from the rectangle. In Cinema it is just a star in the centre of the rectangle. Bit confusing to me to have it shown like this. Maybe there's a way of showing it as a direction

Pics of
c4d Disk light (Star in centre)
3ds max Disk light (Directional Rays)

Can vray scenes be converted to corona, like in 3dsmax or was that support not implemented?

Has anyone found a way to save corona layered materials in the content browser, without losing it's connections.

Say for example i have a Leaf material, with a Front and back side in a layered material. Once save to content browser and brought back in to C4d R21, it still brings in the materials but not in the layered Material.

https://www.rendertaxi.de/blog/en/how-to-create-and-set-up-corona-proxies-in-cinema-4d/

Just reading this article on proxies. I always had trouble getting them to work, but i see you need to put the texture tags from the original model on to the proxy for it to show materials! A little different to 3ds Max.

However, they mention in the last paragraph that :

"Nevertheless there’s still a big drawback when using corona proxies in cinema 4d being that the visor of Cinema 4D becomes very slow while working with proxies using any display modes of the proxies. We actually don’t know if it’s a Corona performance issue or a problem native of Cinema 4D which is not yet able to handle the proxies. We hope that Corona or Maxon developers work together to solve this inconvenience soon!"

I remember when i used 3ds Max, the huge benefit proxies had on Chunky scenes. I was just wondering if the dev's got to the bottom of this?
