[Max] Feature Requests / Render selected through refraction
« Last post by lupaz on Today at 18:05:14 »
Hello,

When I choose render selected and the object that I mean to render is behind a glass, it won't render. If I select the glass too, everything behind it's refraction will be rendered too.

It's be really good to be able to select something behind refraction and still be able to render just that.

Thanks.

YouTube is a great place to learn :)

I still think that remapping of texture values from 0-255 to '1-user value' would have been the most reasonable way to go. The current way is just a big question mark, while remapping would have been self-explained if available right in the material's UI. Nothing works without adding extra nodes anymore the way it is right now.

I see a perfect way implement this :- D

Quote
- if the value is above 1, it is directly applied as IOR (e.g. value 1.5 = IOR 1.5)
- if the value is below 1, it is converted into 1/IOR (e.g. value 0.5 = 1/0.5 = 2)

Who on earth would use the second method (below 1) to create 1/IOR? Let's just change that one method and we'll have both approaches at same time. Full backwards compatibility, full IOR mode override and full easy flexibility. Everyone could be happy?

Like this:

If the value is above 1, it is applied directly as IOR override (exactly as right now).
If the value is below 1, it will directly map as fraction of existing material IOR. Example value 0.5 will halve the reflectance of material IOR 1.52 (so something like 1.333 I don't know the math from head).

Did I miss something, looks ok to me but I also have brutal migraine right now..

I posted a few of my images in the gallery section yesterday. Id actually really love some deep criticism from people that actually know what theyre doing.

I've never had any schooling other than youtube, and about 2 years of mentorship under the person that did this work previously for the company.

Since you say you are NOT using HDRIs, I'd still be interested in seeing the results you get, since this works perfectly for me and always has - a different sun angle and position (set in the sun's parameters, not by moving it around in the scene) will produce dramatic differences in the Sky it is linked to.

This doesn't work with HDRIs, only with the procedural sun and sky :) HDRIs tend to have the sun in them already, and there is no way to tell where that is, so no automatic linking possible.

There really is no reason to convert to the Legacy (which is pretty much deprecated and only there for compatibility with older scenes to be honest). Of course if you really must convert to the old material, just keep Corona 6 installed using the multiloader approach, and then you can run Corona 6 whenever you have a particular need to convert to the old material (e.g. you are providing scenes or models to a client who only has Corona 6 for some reason), but otherwise use Corona 7 for when you don't have that need :)
