I must admit- i'm a little concerned by the new direction. Half the joy of doing product shots in 3d rather than photographing them is that you can cheat in-render rather than having to retouch  afterwards.

Good to have the physically correct values as a base. But they shouldn't be a constraint. Everything we do is creatively art directed.

Your lighting and environment setup is different. That's all. If anything the plastic material is too glossy.
Theres a screengrab attached showing the setup that matches the lighting in your example. Plastic is bogstandad Ior 1.52, gloss .95

[C4D] I need help! / Exclude backplate from tonemapping?
« on: 2021-03-11, 10:10:05 »
Hoping there's a way to achieve this. I want to use a backplate for a composition (Using Direct Visibility override in Scene environment settings).
But if I use tonemapping to clamp the highlights or increase the exposure in my render - then it effects the backplate too.

Is there a way of excluding the backplate from these adjustments?

Really, really, really good.

Rendering on the MacMini you're going to run out of RAM very, very quickly.

Just an idea for you  - as TR can cause problems sometimes, it may be easier to render to PNG sequence (a good idea anyway) and then you can simply split the job between machines. Half the frames on one and half the frames on another.

Not prefect obviously. But quicker than spending a day troubleshootng the TR connection.

I presume what you mean is saving the Alpha in the Channels, rather than the Layers?

https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000073516-how-to-use-the-corona-distance-shader-

It  works in a simiar way to C4Ds native proximal shader. You use another object, spline or whatever to drive the mask. There were some examples posted somewhere on the Corona site - but I can't quite remember where.

In this case I split the polys off from the beveled area and used them to drive the distance (as a mask in the layered shader).

I deleted the file as it was a 2 minute example only, so I can't share it I'm afraid.

good time to try out the distance shader!

Some renderers use 'Roughness' as a parameter, and others use 'Glossiness'.
It does the same thing, just in reverse.

Its super simple.

Just increase the Fresnel IOR value in the Reflection slot. Anything from 20 up will give a metal effect. For mirrored chrome you can crank it up to 999 i think.

Obviously its better to disable diffuse colour too
