Thank you for your effort, Pokoy! This has to be one of the greatest bug reports ever made.
We already have a similar report (Report ID=CMAX-251), but I will double check to make sure it's the same issue.

This specific case should be resolved, at least when using the Corona Physical Material, which is the default since a few versions.
There are still some cases where "dark highlights" may appear when using non-physical effects, see: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528311915025-Known-bugs-and-limitations

Does the tree have some volumetric effects enabled? (refraction, absorption, scattering)

I am guessing (but just guessing) that your camera is somehow placed inside a volumetric material such as glass without "thin" option. To fix that, you can run a script which will globally disable volumetric effects in your materials (but not it may also "break" materials which are supposed to be using volumetrics so it's best to save a scene backup):

Here is a similar case:

We are working on detecting this and handling it automatically or through a notification as we understand it is not expected from user point of view.

This is the original, by the way. :)

Here is the short answer:

This applies to both 3ds Max 2024 and 2025 with Corona 11 Hotfix 1:

- When using the legacy gamma 2.2 workflow - everything is straightforward. You can add the ACES OT operator to your tone mapping stack if you wish, pretty much like a LUT. It will make your image appear more "photographic". You can also remove the ACES OT operator. You do not have to add or remove any specific operators.

- When using the OCIO/ACES workflow - You need to add the new gamma correction operator to your tone mapping stack as the last operator. This is because we currently do not support displaying the image in the VFB correctly when using the 3ds Max OCIO/ACES workflow. If you don't apply the gamma correction operator, your image will appear with linear gamma in the VFB (it will look to dark). You can apply the ACES OT operator just like a LUT - it will make your image appear more "photographic".

Please note that the below is not yet fully decided, so I cannot provide you with very specific details:
We will soon release a Corona 11 Hotfix 2 which will support 3ds Max 2025 and will assume the ACES/OCIO workflow as the new default with some kind of automated or semi-automated way of correctly displaying the image in the VFB. We are not sure how exactly this will be done, but we will do it in the usual Corona style so that you don't have to worry about it. :)

Could you please report this with the scene and the VDB file at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
We will look into it as quickly as possible.

Still nice if Corona's VFB window worked smoother similar to VFB V-Ray :) there even region selection works much smoother during interactive rendering and in Corona it jumps. Maybe in Corona 12 when there will be a brand new VFB also there will be more smoothness :)
Yes, the new version of the VFB should be smoother/snappier/more responsive.

(just internal things below)

tone mapping expanded by default - (Report ID=CMAX-891)
Shift+LMB to draw regions - (Report ID=CMAX-888)

You can create a Corona Volume Mtl with displacement this way. :)

It could be related to the way various volumetric media interact with each other. What happens if you change the IOR of the clouds material to 1.0?
What happens if you use a Corona Volume Material for the clouds instead? (absorption can be used instead of opacity: pure white absorption = 0 opacity)

[Max] I need help! / Re: Max scripting to automate rendering
« on: 2024-03-28, 16:00:49 »
Not sure if that helps in your case, but you can use the 3ds Max Rendering > Batch render option to render in a batch from various cameras or with different settings. You can also export your batch rendering to .bat from there.

Sorry for the delay. This is still on the dev team todo, but no promises or specific dates at this time.

You can capture a minidump from the crash and send it to us. We may be able to tell you what the culprit is (it could be Corona, 3ds Max, 3rd party plugin, or something else).

I have moved the request for Chinese version of Corona to Feature Requests: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=42344.0
Please note that this thread is for discussing the newest daily build of Corona. If you have any feature requests, bug reports, or anything else - please use the dedicated forum sections for this. Thank you.

Continued through the support portal and logged for the devs.
