Hardware / Re: Good Laptop for working with Corona
« on: 2022-08-04, 09:57:16 »
Are you working with C4D or max? If its Cinema then a macbookpro would be my choice. My old one from 2019 has 64gb RAM - but of course it costs quite a premium

Sorry, I think I wasnt clear - I'm refering to creating metal-look materials which are not real metals - for example plastic with a silver spraypaint finish.

There is no slider or float value for the metalness setting - it's either on or off. So I'm wondering what the 'correct' workflow for this in Physical. (Using the Legacy Material you could just use 6-20 in the IOR value and that worked fine - but it's not an option in the new Physical Material.)

[C4D] General Discussion / Fake metals in physical material

I've been using the Physical material more and more. But in my work (product design, packaging, and also automtive) there are a lot of non-metal metals.
Ie. metal effect plastics, silver spraypaints, foil block print etc. etc.

What is the intended workflow with these in the new metalness workflow? I find increasing the IOR value in non-metal insufficient (too dark). And the physical metal too bright.

Any thoughts?

Best to share the scene if you want help with something like this...

"Single out selected model (industry standard, 'shift + i' in Blender)"

Is this not the same as 'Viewport Single Solo' in C4D?

I think he's refering to the long-standing issue where glass, liquid metal etc. just show as solid black in the viewport.
(See my screengrabs using primitives, an HDRI and some mats from the corona library).

It is a bit of a PITA to be honest.

So I've just discovered one reason not to use it. If I drop in a photoshop file I can't choose which layer set to use like I can with a normal C4D bitmap. I like to create my maps with all the diffuse/gloss/bump/alpha etc in the one layered file (it's just quicker). Seems like I can't do this with the Corona bitmap.

This is 100% my workflow and I'd hate to lose it.

Excellent news!

Just realised that I can't use the new slicer material with Mtl override enabled for 'clay' renders.
Can you pleasse add an override check box for the slicer materials (as you have done for glass and light materials?)

[C4D] I need help! / Re: TV texture
« on: 2022-06-28, 14:59:05 »
I'm going to suggest this one ;)

Thats a really cool texture.
Whenever I have had to emulate a screen in the past I've used a similatr trick where I've just overlayed a simple RGB pattern over the top of the image and set it to 20% soft light.

[C4D] I need help! / Licence server woes...
« on: 2022-06-13, 08:55:08 »
Today's problem.... I need to use my laptop for a client visit. But my Corona licence is showing as in-use by my workstation (which is turned off and is absolutely not running cinema).

And there seems to be absolutely nowhere on the Chaos licence server to unassign the license so it becomes free. Nothing in the help I can see either.

How can I (quickly) unassign it?  The time I shoould be prepping for my meeting is being wasted googling answers on this :(

PS. In general I find the server to be PITA. It often pops up with license unavailable 'prompts' without any good reason. I know it falls into Chaos's responsibility rather than the Corona devs. But if you can... have a whisper in their ear.

I thinnk its because you are trying to combine one material with SSS and one with volumetrics. Try using SSS for both

It was a fair query.... while it was not correct for the normals to be this way... I still would not expect it to have effected the glossiness of the material. If any devs have an explanation I'd be interested to hear how this works.

The problem is your model - it has inverted normals. Flip them the right way round and the problem disappears.
