I have several scenes in the backburner with xref files so i don't have to submit a scene each time something changes. I just installed Corona 8 and when restarting a scene that was submitted in Corona 7 the tone mapping is reset to default resulting in a totally wrong output. Is there way to fix this?

EDIT: This also is the case when i open a scene made in Corona 7, this is actually very annoying and should not be happening, by the looks of it there is no backwards compatibility?

Basic rule: do not switch software version during production on a project ... IMHO you should only start new projects with a new software, not hoping everything will be untouched when updating ;)

Hi, I believe this is a bug we are actively investigating, can you please clarify if Camera override tone mapping is enabled?

Tone mapping override is not enabled. What i am seeing at the moment is that not all the projects suffer from this bug. Untill now i can see that the scenes that have been reset all contain xref's.

EDIT: I have been opening lot's of projects and none of the scenes that don't contain xref's has a problem with the tone mapping being reset. All the scenes that contain xref's do have the tone mapping reset.

We have the same problem without xref. Lut is missing. Rest of the tonemapping ist default. Additional: if we save a postprocessing file in the image viewer and will open it in an other image, nothing happend in the tone mapping. very bad.

Hi Erik, I am afraid I cannot reproduce this with xref scenes, can you kindly please provide me with an archive of one of your scenes, feel free to only send me the scene empty but with just the camera inside (not resaved with v8).

Hi, can you please try the following for me:

1)When opening the scene in V8, is Camera override for tone mapping enabled?

2)Can you please delete the Corona folder (or backup, remove it from the root folder temporarily) from your ENU location: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20** - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg\corona, do not resave the original scene in V8 and only open the old/original one with Corona v8.
Then select the camera go to its modify panel see if the overrides are enabled for tone mapping, and then please check if tone mapping parameters are still wrong in the VFB.

3) I am afraid loading saved configurations even through CIE seems to be working as expected, is your Corona Image Editor properly updated to version 8?

Camera override for tone mapping is not enabled, should it? Corona Image Editor is updated to version 8.

Rest of the tests are not possible at the moment. Sorry.

Thank you, reproduced, as suspected removing the following Corona folder from your 3dsMax ENU should resolve the issue, can you please verify?

Steps:
Please delete ONLY the Corona folder (or backup, remove it from the root folder temporarily) from your ENU location: C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20** - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg\corona (Be sure to restart 3dsMax), do not resave the original scene in V8 and only open the old/original one with Corona v8.

Then select the camera go to its modify panel see if the overrides are enabled for tone mapping, and then please check if tone mapping parameters are still wrong in the VFB.

Can you please send me a screenshot of your C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20** - 64bit\ENU\en-US\plugcfg\corona, or if possible archive it and send it to me. Regarding 3dsMax version there is a possibility there is a bug there as well but please let's rule out first the ENU one because locally it does resolve the issue for us.

Thank you, so a single config is present which is good, I will try and investigate a bit further with 3dsMax 2015.

Hi,

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. I have managed to reproduce this in your scene with max 2018 and older.

I will log this as a bug and let you know when I have some more information.

Is it possible for you to use a newer version of 3ds max as a workaround in the meantime?

Rowan

I just found another bug in the tone mapping. To resolve this issue i tried to save the settings to a .conf file, only when i load the file into the Corona image editor nothing happens. It is also happening to renders i already submitted to the backburner and want to render again, the first time they render just fine, the second time all the settings are lost and i can't load them into the editor.

This is really becoming a problem, pleae, can you fix this asap and not in in Corona 9!

I already changed the cxr, i needed it for production, so i went to get the backup file and behold, now there is no problem with the resetting of the tone mapping? A second time opening the file and now the tone mapping is reset again? Now i tried opening multiple files and i can't replicate this behavior. What i do notice is that when the tone mapping is reset, the image editor doesn't have a path to the LUT folder.

When i open my cxr's it is totally random, files that opened correctly an hour ago now have the tone mapping reset. Opening them again displays the files correct?

I can send you one, but not on a public forum, these images can't be displayed publicly, where can i send one?

I had to use the dropbox link, the uploader is not working, every time i press upload the captcha says it expired and i have to do the captcha again only to have it reset on me. You're sure not making it easy for me :(

Apologies for the troubles and thanks for the files, can you please specify what should the exact parameters of the saved config be? It loads the following for us:

Those are correct. It is strange that it is much harder to replicate for me today, only 1 out of 30 opened cxr files had the settings reset, opening it a second time gave me the correct settings. I don't know how the image editor works but it feels like it doesn't have time to load the settings saved in the file and therefor resets them. So maybe this issue is not connected to the resetting of tone mapping in 3dsmax files with xref's.

We've had luck with a similar issue that loads incorrect reset vales for operators, and there are some issues with the order of scenes being loaded, I believe it might also relate to the current issue here. If you ever manage to get a reliable reproduction please feel free to write us back, we can also schedule a video call to assess the issue directly, it usually helps.

The opening of CXR files is the least serious one. The fact that scenes with xref's have the tone mapping reset is much more severe for me. I often have to revisit older projects and I almost always use xref's. This is always the case and not every now and then, i would be most gratefull if this could be resolved soon.
