IIRC, in short:
Prototype was developed by Motiva company as a Max-Unreal bridge/converter, sold and is further developing as Datasmith/Studio.
It's supporting/translating industry CAD standard files. Mostly for Arch/Product viz.
Free beta was recently prolonged for another year (til Sept. 2019) & after a subscription is planned.
