it's driving me up the wall in frustration.

I have a slightly heavy scene, but it's really nothing compared to typical production. no matter if I use in viewport IR or popup IR every time I stop it, max goes into full grey spin freeze BS for minutes before recovering. super annoying.

Corona 3 hotfix1 default rendering settings, no weird or crazy values anywhere. It just looks like the viewport refresh that happens after or is being forced after the IR stops just kills max. it's horrible, and I'm not sure if anyone else have noticed this?

I haven't had time to setup a small simple scene, but I suspect the problem not being noticeable when the scene / viewport refresh is already super quick.

anyway any ideas would be amazing because this is driving me mad.

Hi everyone,

I am posting here and not in the bug forum as I'm not 100% sure if this is really a corona issue or a FP issue or both.

But I am on a regular basis huge problems with render nodes at random seemingly just can't find FP assets, even FP sometimes can't find it's own assets after you load them locally and reload the file, they still render mostly because it then looks at the local path, but max when opening the file still gives you a missing textures error.

So usually when this happens I relink everything to a network drive that holds all the textures copied from FP, but more often than not the entire FP obj is just not rendering correctly and obviously it becomes a mess.

I just wanted to hear everyone here if you are dealing with the same problem and if so, how you solved it?

Does corona support the newly (very newly) added bifrost? I am curious whether render legion has had access to a pre-release build or if all this is part of the scheduled 1.8 fluids support?

Hello everyone,

So I had this odd idea today, why are there no discord channel or at least chat channel for 3D / art production software? 

I remember back in the 90s where using mIRC to join channels to discuss whatever topic you could imagine was totally normal.  In the gaming world today this is also totally normal, using discord to gather groups of people in regions, games, topics, etc.

anyway I am curious if anyone else would even be slightly interested in this?  Like it could be an official channel that can be moderated or it could be a community channel too, but sometimes it would be amazing to just pop in and drop a question or a problem and have this epically talented group of people at your finger tips :) 

Anyway, just a thought.

Hi everyone,

I am curious if any of you are not using the default nitrous (dx11) viewport engine that is standard in 3dsmax these days?

If you are running 5 year old hardware I can understand why maybe, but im I am curious if any of you delibriately choose a different option and if so, why?  Nitrous has been running OK for me lately, but often it's also just super painful and takes me back to the max2013 days where it was flat out terrible.

direct3d or opengl anyone?

Hi everyone,

I just did a quick test using the corona hair mtl in 1.7 daily build, using a super basic and quick hair/fur setup using max's standard hair/fur (not Ornatrix) - but I noticed that it doesn't look like Motionblur is working? 

It's enabled on camera and in corona render settings like usual.


So I just want to check if mblur is actually supported for standard hair/fur? or is it only ornatrix that is officially supported?

And of course, with chaosgroup highlighting the power of Cryptomatte by including it into vray 3.6 for max, I now want this in corona too :D

[Max] Feature Requests / Thinking particles + Motion Blur?

Hi everyone,

I am very very new to thinking particles in 3dsmax, but I can't seem to get corona to render motion blur for it? is this not supported or am I doing something wrong?

I have attached a frame showing that the standard box works perfectly fine with Mblur, but the TP setup does not.

As topic says, is there any chance we will see Corona support for the newly released Interactive "stingray" VR solution in max?

As of release the only other engine supported is Vray, but you can port your vray scenes with nearly a 1-click solution from what I can understand.  which is nuts and awesome for people who doesn't need the full power of UE4 to do VR showcases.

Anyway, we all here use Corona so.... the obvious questions stands :)

Hi everyone,

Today I ran into an odd problem that took some time to figure out what caused it, but I think I have narrowed it down to a combination of running Interactive render while moving a camera that is controlling a camera projection.

This is super handy as camera projections doesn't seem to display correctly in the viewport, so being able to adjust the camera position using interactive is amazing!  until max crashes of course.

This happens in corona version 1.5.2 hotfix, 1.6 daily 23rd/oct and the very latest 1.6 daily from 13th/dec.

I have attached a few images.

1. just a quick preview of what the project looks like, photo matching and coloured patterns being projected from above onto the ground.
2. material setup
3. viewport view of the projected camera which is the camera being rotated while interactive is running
4. viewport perspective of the scene geo (fairly unimportant, but might help understand what is going on).

I can't upload the maxfile right now, and I haven't had time to test if it crashes in other files too, but to replicate the theory all you need is the following:

1. simple geo, a plane or box
2. camera for your render view
3. camera looking straight down for projection
4. setup the camera projection material to project any given jpeg onto the plane
5. start interactive render to see the result and....
6. while interactive render is running, select camera from 3. and rotate it back and forth seeing the updated result in interactive.
7. more often than not I could rotate maybe once or twice and then max would crash.


Hope this makes sense, if not please do ask!

Hi everyone,

I just want to share a little fun project I am making purely with the purpose of getting back into particle flow.

So it's a fully dynamic system that shoots arrows, which hits which ever target I want. On impact they trigger an animation that makes them wiggle.  I have setup the option to spawn a plane with a texture for impact or drop splinters or similar on impact, but I'm not using it here.

Rendered in Corona with motion blur and depth of field, no post outside of frame buffer tweaks.

Using the latest Daily build, there is a bit of curve adjustment through corona, as well as bloom/glare and a bit of highlight compression.
50 passes / frame, 25fps.

Next step will be sound design, trying to edit it to have the feel of arrows flying over you hitting the target and ground.

Hi everyone,

I am playing around with some particles and I am trying to the corona distance texture to see the Pflow source as an object to take into consideration for the swapping of texture based on distance. but it doesn't seem to work?  Is this even supported or am I missing something?

I hope this makes sense, if not please let me know.

Hi everyone,

This is the first image of a personal project I am fiddling with. I am hoping to end up with an exterior, living room, (maybe kitchen), Balcony and (maybe bathroom) by the end of it all.

But here is the living room render.



It's considered done, as I have other things to get into, but if anyone has any feedback, by all means!
