thx!

I do not dare to install the dailies on my production machines, but your explanation made me think:
I have created an exact copy of the vrscans absolute location on the render nodes and for now it works! :-)

2
Using vrscans materials in a backburner network render always results in pure black faces without any texture on the render nodes.
(A backburner network render on the local workstation renders fine)
Using the "include maps" option when submitting the render results in pure black.
Making a copy of the vrscan material to the max/maps directory on the node also results in pure black.

Using 3dsMax 2022 and Corona 9

Threadripper is QUAD channel, so you do need at least 4 RAM modules. Using only 2 RAM modules will basically half it's performance.

You should use 4 sticks of DDR4 instead of 2.
TR is a quad channel design, so you basically limits its power to half by using dual channel memory.

If you use A1 and C1, does it mean u are using only 2 sticks of RAM?
In that case, the threadripper performance is cut down a whole lot because it requires at least 4 sticks of RAM to work at full potential. (It's a quad channel design)
So i would advice to test with 4 or 8 sticks of the same fast RAM.

Hi,

Are those previews made with Corona or another renderer?
Do you use a special setup?
(The shadows are very sharp and that's something that doesn't work with most HDRI's in Corona)

Off-Topic / Re: windows version
« on: 2018-06-08, 09:16:35 »
I am using Windows 10 for about one year now, but I would still love to go back to Windows 7.
For me there are (small) 3 things that keep me annoying a lot:

- You can't stop Windows 10 from rebooting when it thinks it has to reboot for an update. It warns you a few hours in advance, but then it forces the reboot, no matter if a render is going on or not. This is not a problem on your daily workstation, but I have lost several renders on my slaves during the night.
- Windows 10 always switches back to the "Edge" browser as your default PDF reader, even if you assign acrobat as your default. As a work with a lot of very large PDF files, this Edge PDF viewer sucks like hell. (I know you can always click right and choose "open with", but what's the point in knowing better than your user, Microsoft? Imitating Apple or what?)
- The new internal image viewer is no improvement either. It takes 3 seconds to display a large image from blurry to sharp and has some time consuming effect when you delete an image. The previous one was fast and sharp from the start. (I know there are better images viewers on the market, but why turn a good app into a bad thing, Microsoft?) (I have reverted to the old viewer via a reg edit, but with every update Microsoft is removing my changes. thanks!)

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona 1.3 Benchmark
« on: 2018-06-08, 08:55:45 »
If the benchmark render fits into your memory, there is no difference in 16 or 32 or more RAM. More RAM doesn't result in faster render times.
The clock speed of your RAM however will have an impact on the result. (Would be nice to see the clock speed in the table as well)
Another thing is the speed of the CPU itself. Some CPU's run at stock speeds, some are overclocked.

I had the same problem. I never saw the lines, but I experienced the grid in several images. (usually the darker area's).
It was linked to the export of the CXR file format. When rendering to TGA, the problem was no longer there.
Although it is a great concept, I stopped using CXR for this and other reasons (because sometimes I even got corrupted CXR files - see my other post)

Very nice work. Love the mood of the images.
Nice graphics too.

My only (personal) remarks:
- I would have left out those weird walking people.
- Not every camera has to move, and there could be some variation in camera movement speed.

You are talking about "very good" tests, but I think 2min 17secs for the Corona benchmark is not a good result for you system.
The benchmark is running outside your Corona/Max/C4D installation, so I think you should look at system level. Are there other processes going on that are stressing the CPU?

Great Work.
I think the lightning and colors are spot on. Which HDRI did you use, or is this CoronaSun?

[Max] I need help! / Re: Data decompression (zlib) failed
« on: 2018-03-21, 08:51:55 »
The files with the errors are saved by a slave as a result of a backburner network job.
It didn't happen a lot, so i did not check if it was always the same slave that gave the error.
For the moment I am using TGA instead of CXR and had no more errors. (I don't dare to use CXR overnight anymore)
I don't have the exact copy of the scene that caused the error of the file i uploaded, this file has been saved over by a more recent. I can provide this recent one if you like?

Most of the TR4 motherboards have a double CPU power connector. This has a double 8 pin connector. Not sure if you need to connect both of them if you are not going to overclock the system, but for system stability and the future possibility to overclock it may be better to have a power supply with 2 CPU connectors. This power supply has only one.
(Power supplies like Corsair HX850 or Seasonic Focus plus 750FX have 2x 8pins CPU connectors)

I have send a corrupted file via the dropbox link.
"loenhout_06.cxr"
My files are saved on a Samsung 850 PRO 512 GB.
These CXR are quite big, so the chance on having an error on a bad disk increases, but i have more than 30.000 files on that disk and i have never had any error besides the CXR errors. I have checked the disk with HD Tune and did not find any errors.

Thx for looking at the file.
