[Scatter] I need help! / Light material vs self illumination
« on: 2023-07-01, 08:48:56 »
Hey team,
Requesting some clairification on what would be ideal to light an led strip around an electronic device. Light material or self illumination?
This is what i got from corona documentation:
1. (self illluniation)Controls the emission property of the material. Useful to create emissive surfaces like LED text, cellphone displays, etc.
2. (light material) The main purpose of the Corona Light Material is to illuminate the scene. The typical use case is light-emitting objects which have different shapes than the ones available in the Corona Light object (e.g. light bulbs, custom-shaped lights, curved LED strips).

Thank you so much Beanz for the support. Gonna work on it

I achieved something similar. Below i have attached a file.

But does this method apply to the first image or would it be easier to split the obj into two and use two different materials or is there a more ideal way to do the first image

Hey guys. There are two different looks im going for that requires SSS. 1. The rock with a localized sss effect. 2. General SSS to look like a glacier. Kindly assist on how to set the materials. I have attached the sample images below

Just to clarify, the first image does not have mold but would want that detail on the mold itself rather than the whole obj.

Hey team, its been a while but my attempt to make the snow had some challenges. I tried both the snow texture as well as modelling the individual particles but both didnt turn out the way i hoped. 1. The texture didnt produce the realism and detail i hoped. 2. I modelled 5 individual snow particles and used both chaos scatter and surfacespread to distribute the particles but the number of clones proved overwhelming for my machine. I tried 2000000 clones on both plugins but it did not manage to cover the entire area. Anything more than that was taxing on my machine. Im running on an xeon dual processer with 2.8ghz 48 cores. Kindly help, not sure what im doing wrong.

Attached is an example of what i want to achieve(Left) as well as the failed attempt(Right) I also tried.

Thank you for that workaround..using it currently. It works like a charm

Is there a way to dock the corona renderer directly in c4d

The Mograph Cloner and generate more clones on top of other clones. Maybe that might help you in this case. There is a very nice sand material in Cosmos.

How will you make the footprints? Displacement? Object Deformer?
The footprints was the second part of my question.. im thinking displacement using the decal would be easier..what would you propose

It will depend a lot on how closely you will see this texture. Look for PBR textures, to see from afar it's perfect. If you are going to take a close-up, replicate some grains with the Corona Scatter over the sand texture.
Its very closeup, will try using two bitmaps as Stefan suggested but i also like the idea of scattering over a texture. i will attempt both to see how each yields

"When you propose coloured grains you mean i use actual geometry?"

no geometry, i mean a bitmap texture for color, and another bitmap for the ultra fine displacement

(dont use noise this tends not to work good with very fine details)
Thank you Stefan, will work on it today.. basically i need a very good bitmap with ultra fine detail

Yes bigAI, I intended to have the snow on the leaves..i havent seen an image which i could provide as a reference but Benjamin's pic is similar to what i had in mind.

I will attempt to making the scatter object editable or use the cloner on cloner method. I tried using a layered material(not sure if this is the same as material stacking) since the tree bark came with the textures separate.

I will try to photoshop or create a sketch to show you guys what i intended to get. but first ill try out Benjamins and BigAIs suggetstions.

I also tried that snow plugin i.e csnow but it was too metaball-ish and adjusting the parameters didnt yield much of what i hoped for

im a c4d user and i believe that plugin only applies to 3ds max..would that be similar to forester plugin

Thank you bengamin for that quick response..
but it seems that my idea of having snow on the mold may not yield directly from the renderer..i was intending for the moss to grow on certain areas of the tree bark, then scatter snow on the moss but if its not possible to scatter on another scatter, i may have to consider photoshop as a final option
