I'm almost sure it's FPP 6.2.x with an animated camera, referenced in a forest object (@Rowan: see ticket #184420).

To test:

  • switch to a one viewport layout, move away from the scene - looking into the sky for example
  • remove the camera reference from all FPP objects
  • delete all keys of the animated camera
  • delete all FPP objects
  • update to a newer FPP version (which one do you use Jens?), I could not repro this with 6.3.1 (which we currently use) any more

If IR stops restarting in any of the above cases, it's the FPP bounding box issue: As soon as the mouse hovers over the bounding box of a FPP object, IR restarts. Maybe you could check this.

Hi Frood, sorry for not getting back to you on this. I got the IR refresh bug again, and came back to this thread to read through what you said. You are right!! If I disable them but the forest pack icon is still visible, nothing changes. But if I hide them completely in the forest lister, the IR bug goes away. That's it.

It's 100% tied to the camera. If I remove the "limit to visibility" under the Forestobject's "camera" roll down menu, the IR bug goes away.

update: Just saw this on the forum. Guess I'll try with that update :)

- Fixed continuous updating of Interactive Render when using Camera->"Limit to Visibility".
   * This bug would also affect general performance when camera clipping is enabled on viewport.

Hi Jens,

Scenes saved in newer versions of Corona are not expected to work in older versions of Corona and can lead to crashes etc.. See: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000570015-corona-renderer-for-3ds-max-daily-builds

I'll take a look at the scene nonetheless, however I would advise against opening scenes saved in newer versions of Corona in older versions.

I will also take a look at the scene with the IR refreshing, can you tell me the name of that scene?

I think the file name was this one: "Vindoe_environmnt_oktagon_v51-local.v06" I'm uploading a new scene, this time in max 2021 and with corona v6 that also has the IR refresh bug.

I tried switching to max 2021 instead of my current 2020, as max kept bugging out (keyboard shortcuts didn't work and couldn't click max' menus). So not able to save or anything, but could navigate and use viewports and the command panel. So weird. If I try and close the max window it does so immediately, no prompt asking for saving, no max crash report etc. But 3dsmax.exe keeps running in the background. I'm not getting this bug with the scene in max 2021, but now there IR bug is back! Argh, this project is cursed! I do think it could be tied to vray5/phoenix as all these bugs came after installing and using those.

*update in case anyone else had his bug* the bug with not being able to click menus and keyboard shortcuts not working only happens when I open the material editor (slate). Then it activates the same second. There's a phoenix ocean tex and foam tex amongst a couple of corona maps and materials in there. It happens with the newest "stable" vray version: vray_adv_51001_max2020_x64. If I install 51000 instead, bug is still there. BUT if i go back to 50005, the bug is no longer there.

I don't want to try the daily build again during this project as I had big problems rolling back from it (see the daily build discussion for further info). Hope there's a workaround with the current stable build. Else I have to keep trying with IR and move/scale the grids so it's not visible.

I like the idea of a "boolean bubble". But I can't quite figure out how to do this with the corona distance map. Something with linking a large sphere to the the camera and then... I probably need to go through your render time boolean thread again haha

I have also uploaded a new file as I now get crashes on render. This is after I tried to roll back from the nightly vray5 and phoenix + corona 7 builds to the "stable" official releases (I need to send this project to a cloud render service later). I have then tried to uninstall corona, vray and phoenix first + deleted ENU folder, restart and then install the stable releases. Main issue here seems to be the displacement of the phoenix ocean tex. It crashes the scene every time even though I made new maps and deleted the old. It works okay solo in a fresh scene, but there's some old setting somewhere that makes it crash.

update: it is something in the render settings that triggers this. I have tried merging stuff from the old scene in to a new scene and if I include the "render settings", the crash on render starts. So I have uploaded two small test scenes. One WITH the merged in "render settings" that crashes and one WITHOUT that merged "render settings" that works fine.

Hi guys

I've never worked with all these fancy schmancy volumegrids, openVDPBFBP clouds etc, but I'm having a lot of fun. However, I notice that when the bounding boxes of the volume grinds overlap I'm getting these "artifacts". I know it's the same when using normal geometry with the volume material added, but then it's much easier to move volume objects around so they don't intersect. Here I can't get the result I want as I can't influence the cloud data other than scale the volumegrids. And to get the look I want I have to have them overlap. Is there a workaround for having multiple clouds in different altitudes so I can fly through them (animation)?

I'm having an issue with IR on the latest build. It seems to restart rendering constantly if the mouse cursor is hovering in any of the viewports. If I move the cursor outside of the viewports, it renders fine. I don't recall this happening in my other scenes with this build, but this scene has an animated timeline (not playing when IR).

Hey fellas

I would love to be able to have a small floating viewport with interactive rendering running all the time and then be able to use 2D pan/zoom in it to tweak things. Any update being able to do this? :)

I'd recommend SiNi Forensic and Relink Bitmaps - both free.

Yes, SiNi Forensic is the way to go.

Not free and not expensive but is doing a great job on relinking bitmaps, corona proxies, xrefs is Library Track / Relink by Pixamoon.
One of the great features it has is that you do not have to open the Max file.

You can also do this with the Connecter app (asset browser) which is free. Just click 1 or more files files in the browser and click the "manage files" button. Here you can search, assign or remove bitmaps as the relink bitmaps script without having to open the files.

Hello. Daily_28_05_2020. There is no CoronaSun in the CoronaLightList

It has never been there.

Would love to see it show up there too so we can easily turn on and off the suns and get correct render elements when using lightmix.

Unless you are working on a way to have lightmix settings apply to all render elements and not just the "lightmix" one? :)

Would love to have the option of canceling on a "global" level instead of just the 1 proxy currently being exported. If you have a couple of groups selected and choose the "Export as seperate" it usually goes okay, but if the model is just 100 leaves grouped into 1 plant, then you are f'ed and have to either wait for all 100 .geo to be exported of that model or force a max shutdown. Cancel the entire process would be nice to do in these cases :)

Regarding assets relink etc, I would suggest using the Connecter lib browser, you can set/search bitmaps etc via the app prior to importing and also import as a proxy.

Personally I don't have much need for the things you mention as per above app and that we create proxy folders on a per project basis if needed as you also say.

ah okay, thanks for the reply Ondra. Would love to see this for ultimate flexibility - would I be wrong to assume that this could also lead to later implementation of getting correct results in i.e. the reflection pass etc when using lightmix w. multiple suns?

"Selection of the sun for the sky model computation has changed for scenes having multiple suns"

- how are we to understand this? I had hoped it would mean the sky would change and match the active sun in the lightmix, but I still get a static sky only matching the first sun. Only way to get correct sky with multiple suns seems to be if I manually turn off all other suns on each sun object in the scene (not via lightmix).
(This was in scene with prev. daily, but I have changed both sky model and ticked off the "legacy" texture in each sun object).

I'm wondering if the corona proxy exporter can be looked at? Just a minor thing, but it annoys me. Normally it takes the object's name and uses that for the new proxy created (with a crp prefix). Seems like that is gone now and naming is set to: "combinedObjectName" everytime unless I manually change it.

Previously it was a little better at picking up the object's name automatically, but that would brake after first export.
- Select object -> right click -> corona proxy export = the object's name is used in the naming of the proxy that is to be exported.

On second export try on a new object in same scene, the previously exported objects name would still appear in the exporter window and I would have to manually change it. No matter if I had closed the exporter or not.

Update, 3d connexion today's released driver 10.6.6 still causes unanted random shifting in max 2020 and 2021, all you need to do is draw a box, add camera, shift the lens, then select and inselect the box 3 or 4 times in the viewport and watch the camera shift on itself. Goodbye my NZD $1000 3d mouse :(

Seems to work better for me now (max 2020 sp3), but I can still fuck it up if I use the spacemouse on the camera when it has automatic tilt enabled, but I can't recreate it as you describe by just clicking in the viewport (I sure had  it on the older driver version, but more randomly. Will have to monitor this, but fingers crossed! Have you tried going back to v.10.6.0? Seemed more stable to me on this issue. Also now seems like you can undo these buggy vert tilt camera moves done with the spacemouse? - It's all off topic for the corona daily discussion, so I think you/we should continue this over on the 3dconnexion forum :)
