Title: copying material from a scene to another scene
Post by: denisgo22 on 2021-12-04, 18:23:25
copying material from a scene to another scene also transfers geometry from old scene/
and this applies not only to materials with /Distance map, AO or other materials with /Exclude-Include/ selection sets and
and does not depend at /Parent selection or select unfluences option in 3dmax/
thus when transferring materials
sometimes you have to clean a new scene from unnecessary geometry, and sometimes it is very difficult to determine which layer this geometry comes to.
very inconvenient and very interfering with work with complex scenes/
it all started somewhere with version 6 .

I transfer materials from scene to scene all the time and have never run into this issue. Can you provide the scenes?

Can you please clarify what's the procedure you follow to transfer materials from old to a new scene?

Had same problem recently.

In the material editor I opened another max file as a material library, then dragged needed material and closed that library, after that some objects from that scene appeared in current.
Objects had different materials and were not related to the material I imported. Also, while I could see them in the scene - I could not find them in scene explorer, had to select them and use a script to add them to some layer.

Hi, thanks for reporting this. I will investigate and try to reproduce this, if by any chance you have a small-quick reproduction-scene I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi everyone, I've tried reproducing this but with no luck, open the material library from an existing scene doesn't import any objects/assets. Would it be possible to send us a small reproduction-scene?
