[Max] I need help! / Re: Render stamp
« on: 2018-12-14, 17:37:12 »
Thank you Frood, it works!! :)

Actually I've seen that Rebusfarm doesn't accept prerender scripts and doesn't consider the startup one, but, since their uploading window returns that error, it works as a reminder to turn off the stamp!
Thanks again!!

Good idea! I'll give it a try! Thank you

Thank you for the advice Froob, but actually most of the times I use the interactive render in viewport instead of the VBF and so the stats are hidden…
Maybe it's time to buy a second monitor to have more screen estate!

[Max] I need help! / Render stamp
« on: 2018-12-14, 10:32:30 »
Hello,
is there an automated way to use render stamp during work without it showing on saved images?
I know that I can turn it off before saving the image, but if I use backburner or auto-save the finished render it will be embedded in the image and the risk is to forget to turn it off before launch.
Maybe a check box option to show the stats at render time but save the file without them could be useful? (or maybe the possibility to show stats only in interactive but not in production)
Thank you for any advice!
Patrick

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Can't open old file with Corona 3
« on: 2018-12-06, 09:22:33 »
My biggest concern about going back to Corona 2 is the fact that I use almost exclusively Rebusfarm for rendering and they have updated to Corona 3
I'm afraid that renders could have issues or artifacts with the new displacement mode if I upload the scenes with Corona 2...

Maybe you should use the element "CESSENTIAL_Reflect", which will look correctly exposed.
The raw component instead, should be saved at 32bit (linear) and composed using a mask that tells it how much visible it should be on the different objects. I used it a lot in Vray but now in corona I usually don't need to work much in post! :)

An update…
I've temporarily reinstalled Corona 2 and the file opens correctly. I'll make a quick render and go back to Corona 3!
Before this final solution I tried to merge everything in a new scene disabling displacement before the import, but it didn't work...

I've just uploaded the scene (1543928115_Montaldo-Ristorante-011.max)
It's only the max file, without textures and proxies; please let me know if you need those files too.
Thanks!

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Can't open old file with Corona 3
« on: 2018-12-04, 12:16:07 »
Hello,
I have installed Corona 3 and I can't open a file that was created with Max 2016 and Corona 2; I've tried both with Max 2016 and Max 2019 but both remain stuck with the pop-up asking about the new displacement mode. Other files, even with displacement applied, are opened correctly...
Any idea?
Thank you,

Patrick

(I've tried to import everything in a new scene but it doesn't work; same behaviour...)

[Max] I need help! / Re: Blur parametrer (Filtering)
« on: 2018-12-01, 15:58:22 »
A value that usually works for me without having to modify it depending on render resolution and view angle is 0,1 or 0,2
Not too crisp but well defined...

I agree, they are affected equally. What I meant is only that I find a low blur value particularly useful with objects more parallel to che view, as it helps keeping the details of the texture sharper.

Thank you for the explanation and example Romullus; good to know!
I Always thought that the inclination of the object played a role in the rendering of the texture because, like I also see in your example, the details of parallel objects look more crisp with low blur values while in facing objects the difference is less noticeable…
Thank you!

In my experience, reducing the blur value to minimum values is expecially very useful and needed for objects like floors or roads that are usually seen at an angle almost parallel to the view. In those cases the texture would lose most of its detail with the default 1 value.

I agree that in real photos the exterior would look overexposed if you expose the interior correctly but sometimes you need to tweek things to make the shot more natural looking, like explained in the above video (or most times because your client simply wants everything to be in light…)
In this case I think you should increase exposure and work with the "highlight compress", "contrast" and "filmic highlights" parameters of the camera to make it look better.
What I would do is to move the sun so that it doesn't enter the room directly; in that way you should be able to increase exposure without having areas directly hit by the light that would be burned.
Another thing I do in cases like this is to make the windows glass darker, so that the exterior looks less overexposed, but using a ray switch material so that the glass is dark only for reflect, refract and direct while it is still very clear for the global illumination. It usually works for me...
Anyway a slight overexposure of the exterior would make the shot more realistic in my opinion.
My advice is to make the scene look good with the natural light only and then turn on the needed artificial lights with low intensity, only for decorative purpose and not to light the scene.
I hope it helps...
