Hello,
my scene crashes way too often during "preparing scene data ..." phase. Does anyone have tips about how to fix this without sharing the scene? It also happens sporadically. I have 128 GB RAM.

Daniel

One particular scene, many scenes, or all scenes? Sounds like one in particular, and if so, what is different about it do you think? (though sharing it would still be the easiest way for us to have a look, then wouldn't need to ask questions like that :) Sharing is private just with us and it does not get used for anything other than investigating your particular bug).

It has been happening in a different project before, therefore I don't think it is scene-specific. I think it is about textures because rendering without them does not cause this. I will try to upload it then.

Just out of curiosity, could ECC memory cause this? as opposed to non-ECC memory? I have one Mac without ECC and this type of crash did not happen on it.

Hello,

I cannot reproduce this on Windows at all, we will try it on Mac shortly.
Thanks for the ECC memory suggestion, we'll look into it as well.
What corona and C4D version are you using? Please disclose iOS version as well.

Thanks,
Jan

I use Corona 6 HF1
Cinema r23, however, I remember it happened on ECC memory machine on R22 as well.
I use Mac OS Catalina on both macs.

I did some tests, Non-ECC Mac mini does not crash at all. ECC iMac Pro freezes 2/20 times and 0/20 times when rendered textureless.

I am investigating whether ECC function can be turned off.

Same annoying problem here. I have to render 300 frames and every (random) 15-20 frames it hangs on "Preparing scene data". I tried to bake all Xpresso animations but that didn't help. I have force quit C4D and start over again at the frame it hang. So I can't let it run at night for example. It's reducing productivity big time, so please look into it.

Specs:
- Version 6 with HF1
- Mac OS 10.15.7
- Cinema4D r20
- iMac 27 i9, 64GB Ram > Non-ECC, so that's probably not the problem.

For animations, where a freeze happens on a random frame, there were some fixes in the daily builds of Corona 7 - I had a reproducible freeze in that scenario, and the latest daily resolved it.

My colleague reported he was hitting some NaNs in your scene Daniel, it can be connected, we are looking into this.

Thanks,
Jan

So far 110 frames rendered without crashing (with v7). Seems this one works fine! Saves my day, thanks!!
