In the process of looking at adding additional render nodes that are rack mounted.

Thinking of trying to use a Dell PowerEdge R530 server. (We have one on order already for NAS server purposes, with a dual 10gbe Nic.)
It doesn't officially support Windows 7 or 10 OS but after some googling it seems people have got Windows up and running without to many issue.
The system would be as follows:

Dell PowerEdge R530 (Server Chassis) $1160
2x Intel Xeon E5-2630V4 / 2.2 GHz processor $1960 ($980 each)
8x Dell - DDR4 - 8 GB - DIMM 288-pin $1235
Dell processor heatsink $140

TOTAL: $4664

The only thing I'm not sure about on this is PSU. It might be included. If not will have to added.

Does anyone have any experience with the Dell PowerEdge R530 as render node?
Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Even investigated the HP Proliant but they seem to have less driver support for Windows 7 or 10.

The alternative is to use the Dell Precision T7910 rack mount. But this is even more expensive.

Erm, this isn't really going to answer any of your questions but... The 2630v4 usually goes for around 6xx$ (NEW) while the 2640v4 goes for almost a 1000$. Perhaps you made a typo or are overpaying that CPU a little bit :)

Unfortunately not a typo. Listed price locally. :(
