Gallery / Blender + Corona Study
« on: 2017-03-30, 12:32:18 »
Hey Everyone,

as a long time max-user I made some tests in order to get deeper into the blender-corona combo. for several reasons, main reason is to be a bit more flexible dcc wise... *ahem*

For those more interested I wrote small blog on how to get started (nothing special, just compiled some ressources).
But at least I wrote some conclusion - if there is something conclusive to to say yet :D

Many thanks to blanchg and ohsnapitsjoel for that great work on the exporter!

best wishes

Hola everyone!

i made a vr-test case with the latest corona 1.5 - some of the still views also sport the new lightmix and the built in glow and glare. very nice tools, really!

you can view the panotour here http://xoio.de/reel/vr/sln/vtour/tour.html

It works in the browser on a computer or mobile phone, also stereoscopic with the cardboard, gear vr or similar.

below are some stills from the scene :)

heve a nice weekend everyone!

heelo!

well - some months ago i started in my spare-time (rare) a speed project.
I wanted to challenge myself to create 5 different scenarios and render them within one day each.
i almost made it! they are 4 now - and actually i was able to shoot the first set of 16 images for each after one day.
I rationalised a lot of stuff. besides a very minimalistic style and re-using assets throughout them (kitchen, herbs) I started from "concepts" i have kicking around my hard-drive; you know, these never finished
set-ups of a couch and a table in a corner :)

i animated the scenes to fit to every camera, used scene-states to controll the lighting for each shot and used the old batch-render-tool to send it off to network rendering with one click.
works like a breeze! corona works like a breeze as well!

beside the technical challenge (creating the thing) it was also interesting to find out what it takes to create these sets and that they work together well as a series!

the lighting on these is VERY simple - as simple as possible :) The last one - the "loft" scenario i made after watching rawalance's great tutorial on god-rays. one might see it...

conclusion: in total i may have spend 2-3 days on each scenario - after going highres lots of flaws popped up like gaps missing, texture looking shitty etc.
the images are still far from flawless, but i have to put it to an end.
but in total it was super-fun to work in this way with corona again! cheerio!

General CG Discussion / 6500k white
« on: 2015-05-28, 17:07:26 »
Hello Guys,

had some discussion here about corona white balance being at 6500k default - while vray and "real" cameras have it at 5500k.

I am pretty sure there is an idea behind setting it at 6500.. if anybody knows more about this, hints are well appreciated (and honoured :))

[Max] Resolved Bugs / not more than two slaves joining on DR
« on: 2014-05-01, 12:52:08 »
When starting a DR job not more than two slave-machines seem to "join" the party..
they are pinging all the time but don't start max properly.
Anyone knows this issue or is it just me/my network?

edit: it is totally random - every machine basically is able to distributed but only if the particular one is one of the first two to start,
the other ones just "wait".

Gallery / Berlin Flat/Flat
« on: 2014-01-12, 19:53:08 »
Hello Everybody,

I hope you all had a good stat into 2014!

Just want to share some images that I fortunately found some time to finish over the christmas/new years time - a personal project in ages it feels like :)

Well, the set shows a minimalistic decorated berlin-flat. Those of you who know these type of apartments would spot some typical features like the windows, crude heating system, wooden plank flooring, high ceiling, vast spaces and connecting doors - and of course some oddly shaped rooms like 45° wall in kitchen and small annex-space which can only be used for placing a bed there.. (i actually lived in such room as a student.. well, just slept there at least).

Some of the models are from dc (sofa, bike), balloon is a model by Bertrand Benoit, apple&pear by idst, hangers and one of the shirts by juraj&veronica.

The guy standing there in odd pose is a self-made 3d scan of myself we did for testing in our studio.. hehe :)

Again - i had alot of fun with this small project and again corona showed itself as a very powerful tool! Just love that software!

all the best

Gallery / corona is best :)
« on: 2013-09-18, 10:40:40 »
hi everyone!

I came across this great render engine with release of A5 - so somewhat late. the results I've seen around the web that have been achieved with corona really made me wanting to try that as well.
So here I'm going to share some test renders I did with it a couple of weeks ago.

I've been a strong evangelist for corona within our studio and beyond trying to convince everybody to try it out - everybody did and everybody liked it!
One of our guys literally had tears in his eyes when seeing the great results he would have needed to kick vray really hard to get them from it :) (sounds cheesy but true story).

We are slowly switching now and used corona on a handful of "real" projects now - real-estate and furniture visualization mostly. everybody's happy here!

the only critique: you should have develope that piece of software much much earlier ;)

Just read you are going to start a licensing system with the new beta - are you also planning some kind of a floating licensing system? we as a studio (12 seats) really would appreciate that!

kind regards from berlin
