[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Object invisible in reflections
« on: 2015-03-20, 13:32:52 »
maru, I agree to the term "fake" but I don´t agree to break with absolutely basic max functionality. If this is considered NOT to work, object and layer rendering controls should be ignored COMPLETELY at the outset. And this should be clearly stated then. No one should be interested to turn Corona into a half-implemented renderer where features are not fully usable.

No need to use object properties for that. [...]

"No need" is much more less effort than using rayswitch and is part of many workflows, including mine. A simple test with a mirrorball an a box (not even having a material) shows that when objects "Cast Shadows" setting is off the result is not what is to expect. The box looks somewhat transparent but the reflection does not completely disappear. I´m glad someone found this before I ran into that trap. This has to be fixed. Rayswitch is to be considered a a workaround here, not a solution imho.

Good luck!

General CG Discussion / Re: How to save exr at 300 dpi

That´s a pretty forward explanation for the reason (though i strongly disagree here) I´d feared you found something I´m not aware of in some technical whitepaper on page 2.402, printed in ARIAL 4pt in a footnote claiming that it is not very realistic to do so ;0)

Why not just use image size dialogue? Load image into PS, go to Image -> Image Size (Alt-Crl-I), untick "Resample", put 300 into resolution field and there you are.

And yes, almost NO client is capable to understand the relationship dpi<->pixel<->print size. This has been in sum waisting about 3 days in my life explaning to different clients.

Another classic is "But, but... Our print service said It has to be 300dpi !" - for a 8x4m construction sign for example...

Good luck!

Incredible. Such fantastic modelling work like this is almost every time the result of private/spare time projects as it is here. And no, I don´t even think of asking you the "how long..." stuff :)

I´d love to see claywires!

No, I unpacked the installer archive on a Workstation. When trying to execute Corona_1.00.02.exe on the server I get the same "no valid Win32 application" error. Just because I´m curious about that I will try to run it on a old XP/win32 laptop to see if the "server edition" is the problem.

But please don´t care about that any longer, I totally agree on cutting off legacy stuff. better go hunting and finxing DR-rendering bugs instead ;)

Thanks and good luck!

As I wrote in the initial post: windows server 2003
(Standard Edition / Service Pack 2 / Shell says Windows Version 5.2.3790)

Doesn´t seem so to me: "LicensingServer.exe is no valid Win32 application"

- downloaded https://download.corona-renderer.com/builds/3dsmax/Corona_1.00.02.zip
- extracted manually out of the installer
- in extracted folder "LicensingServer" there is only one (no runtime libs this time?) file: LicensingServer.exe, Size 5.055.136 Bytes, digital timestamp: Monday 16. March 2015 21:37:26
- running this file on the server results in "LicensingServer.exe is no valid Win32 application"

?

[Max] I need help! / Re: DR render problems
« on: 2015-03-19, 09:36:10 »
That´s more than I can achieve here, drServer doesn´t even create any max file in drData :/ I will submit that to the Bugtracker when I find some time to test some remaining options.

Good luck!

Just as a hint: In our network in a similar setup like described by olejka2k here in this thread as reply #9 the problem seems to be that a dr slave when used as a BB-Job-slave does not even receive the scene to render ("received_scene_[hash]" in drData directory).

This leads to the "Camera [cam_name_here] defined but not found" entry in drData\MaxLog.txt. At least here it´s reproducable. Maybe it´s the same problem.

And maybe it´s the same issue described by fobus in this post without going deeper into detail or checking logfiles.

Good luck!

fflasshh, regarding your mixed up frames see this thread, there is a hotfix for DrServer. I encountered mixed up frames only when using DR and selecting frames (not a range) to render but give it a try.

The question to Ondra is: Should it work like described in my post (one BB-Job includes other slaves defined in the file) or not. At least for pre 1.0 Corona builds (before slaves got saved into the scene, could be also Alpha 6, can´t remember exactly right now) this was (of course) not possible at all and as far as I can remember it still isn´t intended to work like this. One reason is a legal one, not technical. I hope Ondra can clarify (some day :).

Good luck!

While strange things happened here using BB I checked the logs and was surprised, hence the question. So please: what is the intended behaviour for the following situation right now:

- create some Scene
- add (ready to render) slaves to DR
- tick "Enable"
- submit that job to Backburner to one of the slaves

Is the local Max instance on the one slave(!) who renders the scene via BB(!) supposed to use the other slaves via CoronaDR or not?

Thanks!

I mean... this is the solution you can use today. Additional tweaks for Corona DR will take time

Did you for sure changed drserver in the latest hotfix version only regarding the frames-to-render bug? Or is it additionally a kind of experimental build? Just a discreet question.

I suspected that, that´s why I moved the render setup window into this

.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona and Gamma 2.2??
« on: 2015-03-12, 10:12:08 »
Which PS version do you use? And do you save out EXRs? In older PS versions (pre CC) you had to apply an exposure layer and "revert" gamma (Gamma 0.45) bevore converting to 16/8 bit. Could you attach such an "washed out" image (in it´s original format)?
